Nominees Revealed For The 2016 Age Music Victoria Awards

Celebrating its 11th birthday, The Age Music Victoria Awards have just announced a huge list of nominees and opened up the voting floodgates.

As part of Melbourne Music Week, The Age Music Victoria Awards have announced a bunch of exciting nominees for both their regular and privately-voted genre categories, the former of which the wider community will get to have their say in.

Best Album showcases some of the best Aussie talent from this year, including Camp Cope’s self-titled effort, The Drones’ Feelin Kinda Free, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Nonagon Infinity, NO ZU’s Afterlife, and Olympia’s Self-Talk.

Camp Cope, The Drones, and King Gizz make another appearance for Best Band, alongside Dorsal Fins and Gold Class.

For Best Song, Cable Ties’ Same For Me, Jet Fuel Can’t Melt Steal Beams by Camp Cope, The Drones’ Taman Shud, Alex Lahey’s You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me, and Teeth & Tongue’s Dianne are all in it to win it.

Best Female Artist has Kylie Auldist, Jess Cornelius, Alex Lahey, Olympia, and Ella Thompson, while Best Male Artist carries Briggs, Al Montfort, Remi, C.W Stoneking, and Henry Wagons.

Best Emerging Artist nominates more Cable Ties, Camp Cope, and Alex Lahey, as well as Alicy Ivy and Loose Tooth.

The best live acts in Victoria crowd around for the Best Live Band award: King Gizzard, King Parrot, The Drones, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and The Peep Tempel.

The Drones and C.W Stoneking pop up for Best Regional Act too, accompanied by D.D Dumbo, The Murlocs, and Orb.

Small venues are finally given a seat at the table with Best Venues being split by size, with 170 Russell, Corner Hotel, The Croxton, The Forum, and Melbourne Recital Centre nominated for the larger venues, while The Curtin, The Gaso, Howler, The Old Bar, and The Tote dominate the small venues category.

And we can’t forget about the regional venues either. The Barwon Club Hotel in Geelong, Castlemaine’s The Bridge Hotel, Karova Lounge in Ballarat, Warrnambool’s The Loft, and the Meeniyan Town Hall are all in the running for Best Regional Venue.

Finally, Boogie Festival, Cherry Rock, Meredith Music Festival, Paradise Music Festival, and Sugar Mountain have braved the storm to be nominated for Best Festival.

There’ll even be an after party to celebrate the occasion at nominee 170 Russell, featuring an incredible lineup of local musicians like Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Camp Cope, Alex Lahey, Gareth Liddiard (The Drones), REMI and more.

Get voting for your favourites from now until Friday November 4 here.
