Brb, crying.

For many locals, there’s no better way to spend a balmy summer evening than by heading to this beloved night festival.

The key takeaways

For the past 11 years, the spirited and lively NightJar Festival has become a thriving, vibrant, colourful and eclectic mix of a night market, music festival and showcase for emerging designers, local producers, fair-trade importers and contemporary artists from all over Australia.

Rounded out with interactive art installations, the culinary delights, roving performers, buskers and a banging main stage, the rather wonderful NightJar Festival was something we were all looking forward to visiting in Torquay and Geelong this summer.

But alas, it’s 2020 and due to the uncertainty surrounding major events and large groups gathering in Victoria, the local festival has decided to cancel the festivities for 2021, with plans to return in the summer of 2022.

“What a ride 2020 has been! We have been holding off making any decisions about the 2021 season as its hard to imagine a Summer without Nightjar! But with Victoria having no road map out for Major Events and such uncertainty around large groups gathering we have decided to take this time to reinvent ourselves coming back bigger and stronger in 2022,” the festival said in a post to social media.

“We will miss your smiling faces this Summer but we look forward to dancing with you again like no one is watching! Stay safe and Merry Christmas to you all!”

While we won’t leave our worries at the gate this year, we’re keen to see what the team comes up with for NightJar’s wonderland in 2022.
