New Year on the Pier

Hold off on the New Year’s resolutions for a few moments, as your main priority should be bringing in 2016 with friends, good music and a seemingly never-ending drink. Oh, and it wouldn’t be New Year’s without fireworks of course. A venue offering all that up and more (though we can’t quite promise you’ll never have to hit the bar for a top-up) is The Pier in Geelong.
Stretched out into the bay the venue offers a near 360 degree view of the calm water, which also doubles as a means to catch the fireworks from multiple angles: reflected below in the water and on top from the sky. Its iconic location makes it a favourite place for locals year in, year out to celebrate the past and look forward to the future.
“Our New Year on the Pier event is always one of our favourite events; it’s summer time, people are on holidays, it’s the festive season and there is always a great buzz around town,” a The Pier spokesperson says.
“Our big event this year has a line up of DJs we have never had before – which is always super exciting. We have a fresh and stylish room set up for our guests to enjoy, amazing views of the bay and, of course, the 9pm and midnight fireworks on Geelong’s waterfront.”
While the view may be of a calming nature, the party inside is anything but. Featuring an onslaught of DJs; JDG, Samual James, Denzal Park, Hey Sam, Lucille Croft, Marcus Santoro and local DJs all of which are no strangers to showing punters a good time.
“We’re going for the summer festival vibe with JDG & Samual James headlining – who have just done Stereosonic together and who have just released Dynasty in November, which has been a huge hit,” she says.
JDG in particular frequents the summer festival scene, with Future Music Festival, Ultraglow and Goodlife a few he has recently mastered. He produces his own music and remixes tracks from the best of the best, all while bringing his blend of house, minimal and bounce tips with each and every track. JDG has even become popular worldwide, with David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and Tommie Sunshine spinning many of his tracks. And if he can bring the party to a crowd of thousands at music festivals, New Year’s at the Pier is in safe hands this year.
Often one of the best things about attending New Year’s event is its ability to open you up to a whole new set of people. It seems only fitting that you celebrate the event with your friends and look to the New Year with the chance to make some new ones. Drinks and food will be handled by the venue, with 10 drink tokens given with each ticket purchased to get your celebrations off to a flying start.
“[Our event is] a fun night of dancing with friends and socialising with new people at an iconic venue that will look incredible… plus you won’t have to clean up any mess,” she adds with a laugh.
With the stress of cleaning up afterwards taken away, it frees your mind up with the possibility of pulling an all-nighter. Along with access to the Pier’s event, the ticket gives you free entry into Lamby’s for the official after party: how many house parties do you know of that can change to an exciting new location and set of people mid-way through the night?
Tickets to the event are $99 before Christmas or $110 after and include 10 drinks, finger food and free access into the official after party at Lamby’s.
They can be purchased from the venue itself or by following the links from the website (www.thepiergeelong.com.au).
