New exhibition ‘In Collaboration’ celebrates eight local, emerging photographers worthy of your attention

These will be the eight emerging photographers to watch in 2022.

Shining a light on the most exciting new talent in photography, a new exhibition is opening in Geelong this month, giving art lovers and locals alike a chance to reflect on who will be defining and redefining the photography landscape in the years to come.

Taking over a dedicated space at Platform Arts from Friday, February 25, a hub for youth arts and emerging and experimental arts practitioners in Geelong, ‘In Collaboration’ is an exhibition by the Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging class of 2021 at Oxygen College in Geelong.

Coming together to showcase their final works, each artist has chosen a specific skill to challenge themselves and inform their images.

Featuring a variety of series amongst the eight graduating students, the exhibition is a combination of two years full-time study, the students overcoming the restrictions and unusual delivery methods to complete their Diploma in the midst of the pandemic.

Throughout this exhibition, these local artists not only demonstrate bold dedication to their medium, but also an eagerness to experiment, push boundaries and make waves in the industry.

As for what you can expect to see, Amy Evans who specialises in creative personal branding and marketing will present ‘Feast’, a tantalising series exploring the power of food, colour and composition.

Jane Fitzgerald, whose Instagram is awash with stunning urban photography and architectural shots, presents ‘Un-scene’ A infra-red series capturing the environment in a whole new unseen light.

With skills in newborn photography and family portraits, Nadia Roberts will present ‘Timeless’, a series influenced by Renaissance paintings and tv/film industry to recreate period pieces, while product and lifestyle photographer Sharon Collins has created a series dubbed ‘Reimagined’. Here the artwork takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. The underlying inspiration for the work comes from traditional fairy tales.

Approaching his craft with the same vivid energy his pieces radiate, Darcy Mahon will present ‘Run The Point’, a series capturing the beauty and emotion that competing creates.

Creating refreshing imagery with clarity and openness, Georgie Cooper’s series is titled ‘You Are…’, reflecting self-worth in a collection of digital Collages while Robert Barnard – who specialises in family, maternity and engagement photographer – presents ‘Devastation’ A series showing the reaction to a diagnosis and the coming to terms with it.

The last series comes from Kat Anderson whose images bounce off her Instagram feed to greet you, rich with colour and beauty. Her series ‘Telisha’ is sure to be a highlight, showcasing the uniqueness of musicians in their true style.

In-Collaboration will be opening Friday, February 25 from 6pm to 8pm at Platform Arts, Gallery Two and run until March 11 2022.
