The death of the singer-songwriter and son of Steve Earle was confirmed this morning.

Beloved Nashville singer-songwriter and son of Steve Earle, Justin Townes Earle, has died aged 38. The news was announced on his Facebook page this morning.

“It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father and friend Justin,” reads the statement. “So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys.

“You will be missed dearly Justin.”

The cause of death was not revealed.

Earle has spoken candidly about his struggles with addiction in the past, through both his lyrics and interviews, admitting that he had overdosed five times by the time he was 21.

However, he got sober in the early-2010s, writing on his website, “One day I just realized it’s not cool to die young, and it’s even less cool to die after 30.”
