For the event, both on NYE and NYD, ‘Hot Sauce’ maven Eric Powell will of course be doing what he does best – digging deep through his extensive record collections and picking out his favourite soul, funk, disco and house tracks that has influenced him over the years. Since his beginnings DJing in Manchester, his hometown, in what was to become known as the Summer of Love, Powell has gone on to delight dance floors around the world with an illustrious career in dance and electronic music.
Powell has developed and established three event brands with Carl Cox including “Carl & Eric’s Mobile Disco”, “PURE” with Carl and Richie McNeill and of course, ‘Hot Sauce’, so rest assured he knows how to deliver the good vibes when it comes to a New Year’s party on the coast.

Joining Powell on NYE in Lorne will be Dave Lee ZR AKA Joey Negro. Producing with love for close to three decades, Lee is arguably house music’s major proponent of soulful, disco-tinged, vocal records and without question instrumental in its development and popularisation. No one treats a loop, groove or hook with as much care and attention as Dave Lee.
Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British DJ, producer and remixer Dave Lee. Under a plethora of other monikers including Akabu, Doug Willis, The Sunburst Band, Sessomatto, and Z Factor, Dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1988. Indeed, he was in the studio making credible and outstanding British house music when many luminaries around him were still busy getting to grips with their decks. Little has changed since then and Dave is still widely regarded as one of the most credible and in-demand artists on the global scene.
The NYD event will see DJ Spen join the lineup alongside Powell. The international house music legend, also known as Sean Spencer, has built a reputation as a talented, prolific remixer and DJ, putting his own unique stamp on classic house music including anthems from Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Everything but the Girl, Toni Braxton and more.
Supporting the epic lineup across both days will be local legends Coastal Sounds, made up of old-schoolers misterjon and KChing, and local Sam Turner. Regularly spinning tunes at spots across the Bellarine/Surf Coast for the last seven years, Coastal Sounds have perfected their mix of groovy vibes and funky beats that will have you bumping, cutting shapes, throwing your hands in the air and shrugging off a couple of years of chaos.
If that wasn’t enough to get you moving, the collective also nurtures local talent, and their parties often include live musos and jam sessions so there’s a lot to love about that.
Whether you’ve got plans this New Year’s or not, it’s best to clear the calendar and kick-off 2023 the right way, with an open-air party (or two) that continues long into the evening for a truly sensational summer day out dancing to notable floorfillers and house numbers on the deck.
Secure your NYD plans with tickets here at just $50 or $90 for a two party pass!
If you’re keen to party on until the end of summer, you can catch the Coastal Sounds crew every second Sunday of the month at Bells Beach Brewing in Torquay, Jan 14 at the Torquay Bowls Club, and Jan 29 at the Hop Inn, Mt Duneed.
