Since the issuing of his debut single, ‘Polka Dots’, in 2020, the Macedon Ranges-raised songwriter has been charming listeners and turning heads within the Melbourne music community, with the richness of his voice and the lyrical prowess and authenticity he showcases within his acoustic discography.

With a natural unrelenting performance energy with roots in authentic storytelling, in ‘By Your Side’ Allan’s voice is stronger than ever as he delves into irresistible pop-rock hooks and infectious joyous sounds, blending his gentle 90’s pop-rock style vocals, reminiscent of classic Aussie bands like MotorAce and Taxiride, with some seriously great brit-pop esque backing.

Over three minutes and 53 seconds, Allan has filled his music with plenty of likeable elements, flawlessly executing sophisticated and upbeat guitar pop with acoustic undertones that leave you satisfied yet desperate for more. Alongside Allan’s warm honeyed vocals, full of emotion, passion, love and sincerity with a smooth groove you can really lose yourself in, the song is driven by a slick bass line, a welting saxophone, and a meticulously designed guitar solo as he explores long-distance relationships and the struggles in keeping them together; two lovers keeping together when apart.

Driven by inner self-reflection, Allan gives his twist to a familiar aesthetic, delivering in the process a track that rises and falls with charming resilience and chock-full of super catchy and inevitable melodic hooks – the kind that sound like they’ve always been there, but you’re still hearing it for the first time.

There’s no doubt that after a single dose of ‘By Your Side’, you’ll be picturing yourself singing along on a sunny day from the crowd of a sun-soaked festival. Beer in hand.  Good times to be had.

Written and produced by Allan himself and mixed by Crucible records, ‘By Your Side’ is the follow-up to the softly stirring 2022 track ‘Juliet’, with both songs lifted from his forthcoming EP Songs I Used To Busk With. Due for release later in April 2023, Allan describes the EP as a mostly acoustic collection of stripped back songs that reflect his time busking across Melbourne’s city, with ‘By Your Side’ being the biggest bop of the lot.

“The others are a lot more stripped back, like I used to play them busking, which is the concept of the EP ’Songs I Used to Busk To’,” says Allan. “I used to do that across the city every day, treating it like a full time job, hoping to actually make it my full time job someday. Each of these songs to me reflects that time, the earliest song being from 2012 and the newest one written about 2017.”

Following this release, Allan is planning to support his EP with a huge launch as well as a string of exciting releases, Including an acoustic version of B Your Side’, to coincide with Allan’s first high production music video for the same song.

To celebrate the release of ‘By Your Side’ Allan is performing his first headline show at The Workers Club in Melbourne on March 5, 2023. Joined by his band, The Workers Club can expect a mix of pop-rock and down-to-earth acoustic bops. Allan will be supported by fellow Melbourne acts Saphra More and Yz7v Jade, promising to be a hell of a show.
