Melbourne/Naarm based jangle pop quartet Quivers ink deal with Merge Records in time for new album release.
Made up of Sam Nicholson, Bella Quinlan, Holly Thomas and Michael Panton, Quivers are a band who have garnered much attention over the last couple of years thanks to their cathartic songwriting and 60’s styling enough so that REM slid into their Instagram DM’s with a fire emoji. REM aren’t the only ones to recognise the ethereal band as they ink a major deal with Merge Records.

The move comes just in time for Quivers third studio album, Oyster Cuts, which is set for release on 9 August. Thus for the titular track, along with single ‘Apparitions’ are circulating around. Further singles ‘Pink Smoke’ and ‘Never Be Lonely’ are on their way, dropping 10 July and on album release day 9 August respectively.
The album dives into grief and the strength it takes to swim away from it, drawing on both Quinlan and Thomas’ experiences having both lost brothers. It’s reflected in the sound of sunshine pop with blood in the water – the murkiness of trying to find your way back to the light.
In celebration of the new album, Quivers are heading on the road taking the album far and wide beginning in Australia with dates in regional Victoria’s Kyneton, Beechworth, Ballarat, Castlemaine, along with major cities, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney. Hobart and Brisbane. They will then be shipping into the UK and Europe and to the US twice, ones for a headline run and the second in support of indie-rock pioneers Superchunk.
