Over the next 18 days, the bustling open-air hawker centre at Birrarung Marr will offer a huge range of classic and contemporary dumplings, dishes and drinks, with 20 exciting vendors firing up their steamers, woks, frypans and BBQs.
As great minds think alike, every culture seems to have its own version of the humble dumpling, from gyoza to empanadas to ravioli.
There’s a brand new food experience coming to Melbourne that celebrates these wonderful little pockets of bliss. From November 9 to 26, the Downtown Dumpling Market will take over Birrarung Marr, featuring a ton of food trucks and stalls that will be offering up dumplings served in both conventional and unconventional ways.

There will be dumplings from all over the world including plenty of vegan, halal and gluten-free varieties. Try out garlic-yoghurt smothered Turkish manti from Enfes Gözleme, crunchy wontons from Mr Wonton and adorable sweet bao from Dessertopia. The market is still taking applications for vendors, so more are expected to be announced soon.

To complement your dumpling feast, grab a bubble tea, sugar cane juice or other cold-pressed juice. Those looking for something a little stronger are welcome to hit up one of the many on-site bars.
The Downtown Dumpling Market will also feature a rotating lineup of entertainment throughout the days, including (but not limited to) circus performers, Indonesian dance troupes, DJs, magic shows, Chinese lion dances and live musicians.
Bring your family, your friends and even your dog. A refillable water bottle and a picnic blanket are also recommended as seating it limited and the event is expected to be quite popular.
The event is run by the team behind the Lucky Dumpling Market, which has become a popular event happening along the Adelaide Riverbank each spring since 2017, as well as Adelaide Fringe Arts and Entertainment Destination Gluttony.
