Melbourne western country and swing band Shaky Stills unveil new single ‘Ditty of Sobriety’

Shaky Stills deliver a heartfelt, feel-good anthem ready for singalongs and celebrations.

Renowned for their unique sound, blending genres of country western, tex mex, trucker and western swing with Australian influences, wrapped in a blanket of stratospheric instrumental arrangements, soaring vocal harmonies and big-hearted honesty, Shaky Stills have this week delivered their newest single, ‘Ditty of Sobriety’.

Released on Thursday, August 25, ‘Ditty of Sobriety’ sees the beloved alt-country outfit hone in on their sweet, classic melodies, smart lyrical sensibilities and a warm sound that majestically bridges country western, tex mex, trucker and western swing worlds, resulting in a captivating single filled with light, nuance and playful reflection.

Short and sweet at two and a half minutes, the warm ‘Ditty of Sobriety’ has a timelessness to it, both lyrically and musically. Boasting an incredibly tight sound with infectiously toe-tapping guitar riffs and eerie wails of pedal steel guitar, three-part harmonies, classic 7″ singles arrangements and big-hearted honesty, there’s an authenticity to Shaky Stills; a uniqueness that leaves you wanting more.

Written as an answer to their song ‘Alone’ off their 2017 album Genuine, ‘Ditty of Sobriety’ is inspired by the electricity of atmosphere as well as the assertion that “nobody wants to be alone”.

Hailing from Melbourne, Shaky Stills is an engaging artful culmination of a melting pot of American 20th-century dance music styles. Fronted by Patrick Carr, Shaky Stills write and perform original tunes and all new songs, blending intimate songwriting and expressive rockabilly-tinged country sounds to create little worlds full of vibrant sound, honky-tonk flavour and expressive, big-hearted emotion.

For those keen to see a Shaky Stills’ iconic live performance, they’re bringing their classic country western, tex mex, trucker and western swing to regional audiences this October with a gig at The Bridge Hotel on October 23.

The follow-up to their 2021 EP Motel Sunburn, ‘Ditty of Sobriety’ was written, recorded by Ed Bates, Tom Rodd, Matt Rodd and Patrick Carr, with Scott Bennett on the drums. It was mastered by Matt Rodd at Maivary Lane Studios, and the album’s cover art is by Kate Reid.
