Melbourne International Comedy Festival is home-delivering the laughs with its new online series

It's just like being in the same room as your favourite comedians.

As we get deeper into round two of lockdown in Victoria, binge-watching content online has evolved from a popular pastime to an obligatory practice in staying sane while confined to our four walls and socially distanced from all our favourite humans.

While streaming services like Netflix, Stan and Binge have been great to fill the void, it’s been both inspiring (and refreshing) to see the arts communities taking their shows online to share some joy as they also adjust to the new reality of life under self-quarantine and isolation.

Ensuring we don’t go too long without fresh laughs; Melbourne International Comedy Festival has joined forces with the Victorian Government’s Victoria to shine a light on some of Melbourne’s favourite comedians.

Titled ‘The Standup Sessions’, the five-episode series will run see host Nazeem Hussain chat with the likes of Frank Woodley, Em Rusciano, Denise Scott, Rhys Nicholson and Geraldine Hickey ‘alongside’ (in a socially distant way) rising stars Daniel Connell, Annie Louey, Jude Perl, Kirsty Webeck, Michael Naawi and Alex Ward.

“We’ve all been sanitising non-stop for weeks waiting for the call to get back on stage and make people laugh,” Nazeem Hussain reveals.

“It seems like now, more than ever, Victorians need a good time, and I have a feeling these shows are gonna be just that!”

With some of the biggest names and freshest faces of the local comedy scene, the series is guaranteed to produce some seriously funny content for all Victorians to enjoy during lockdown.

The series kicks off on Tuesday August 25, where you can tune in for free at 7.30pm every week until September 22 from the comfort of your own home at together.vic.gov.au.

All episodes will also remain available on the website once they have premiered.
