With a desire to learn how to create beer using quality and locally produced ingredients in their spare time, Mark a paramedic and perfectionist at heart, and Tim, a teacher with a touch of OCD who relished the thought of learning a new craft, were driven to achieve a series of complex beers.

Operating out of each other’s garages for the past three years, joined by Mt Pleasant Rd, the lads have been indulging in their hobby, meticulously refining their recipe and experimenting with different styles, using locally produced hops (grown in a Highton backyard), honey (Belmont rooftop bees) and collaborating with gin makers.

“The aim was to create beer, to drink for pleasure and to slow down and appreciate the different flavours that make each beer unique,” they say.

Already having local successes with pale ales, wheat beer, a cherry lambic style and dark ales, the homebrewers have now made their way into local bottle shops with their flagship brew, Tropical Eclipse Pale Ale, known by the brewers as TEPA.

A fully loaded tropical fruit flavour, bursting with citrusy sweet mandarin notes, influenced by the big hit of Eclipse hop, it’s a solid start for the brewers and puts them in great stead to continue creating exceptional independent craft beer, with credit to their mentors Bells Beach Brewing, who worked with them on this gypsy brew.

“Our dream is to one day open our own brewery and share our amazing craft beer. This year’s goal is to produce one of our beers for commercial distribution. Keep an eye out on our posts for small-batch releases.”

Riding the wave of Geelong’s craft beer explosion, locals will be able to get their hands on the bright cans at Nardi’s Cellarbrations in Highton, and Chas Cole Cellars in South Geelong. We’ll cheers to that!
