Meet Containaphobia, the newest (and only) horror escape room to open in Geelong

Please note, image is not representative of room. We can't share an image of the room as that would ruin all the fun.

If you're looking something unique and hair-raising to do this weekend, this could be it.

If you fancy being locked in a small, creepy room where you have to solve puzzles and brainteasers in order to escape then we reckon you’ll fall in love with this brand new escape room in Geelong.

Opening back in 2020, CONTAINAPHOBIA is the newest and we dare say most exciting horror escape room to meet Geelong.

The key takeaways

  • CONTAINAPHOBIA has opened in Geelong
  • The horror escape room is housed in an undisclosed location which you find out upon booking
  • The live puzzle is open every day

Looking for more escape rooms? Here are our picks for 10 of Victoria’s best escape rooms.

If you’re new to the escape room trend, the concept is pretty simple: you and your mates enter a room and work together as a team to solve problems, work through puzzles and complete tasks to escape. It’s pretty fun (unless you’re claustrophobic) and it’s pretty cool if you’re looking for something new and exciting to do with your pals, or you’re ready to take your new beau on a unique date.

Housed in an undisclosed location (just for extra creepy points), there’s currently one escape room ready to go – Mahem Manor Escape Room, while the second room – Carnviorous – is set to launch sometime in the not so distant future.

Mahem Manor Escape room is a live puzzle that sees two to four participants put their heads together for 60-90 minutes of hair-raising fun and death-defying horror. The story for this one follows a mysterious text from your best friend.

“It’s been 48 hrs since she left to explore Mayhem Manor in Geelong alone. She just couldn’t resist indulging her passion for the paranormal and with the Manor’s tragic reputation, it was inevitable. Even knowing that no-one enters Mayhem Manor Escape Room Geelong and lives to tell the tale, she had an itch that had to be scratched,” the website description reads.

“The text she sent was bizarre and terrifying escape room Geelong– it made no sense! She begged for help, but then said to stay away! Will you face the danger of the unknown or will you leave your friend to her fate?

“The clock is ticking and you have 60 minutes to save your friend. What will you do? Can you escape or will you be trapped forever?”

More than a challenge, this horror escape room questions your sanity, shocks, scares, and entertains as you try to unravel the mystery and face your worst nightmares. Oh in keeping with the mystery, you’ll find out the location of the experience on the day of your booking (don’t worry it’s in the area).

Does this sound like something your thrill-seeking mother or switched-on bestie might like?

Since opening, their first room (Mayhem Manor) has garnered a slew of amazing responses with literally no less than a 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor with participants hailing it one of the best, immersive and well-designed escape rooms ever created.

“Absolutely gobsmacked! This escape room was the most amazing, well thought out escape room I have ever played,” read one review. “By far the best in Victoria. Full of surprises and twists with every puzzle I was fully immersed in every second of the game. From the second we pulled up we were playing the game guessing whether we were in the right location with the spooky but amazing external representation of Containaphobia. Ben the host did an outstanding job and we cannot wait to return for the next escape room. Cannot recommend this experience enough!”

It was also hailed an insane experience, setting a new standard in escape rooms across the nation from another reviewer who has experienced more escape room that you’d think possible.

“Having played [more than] 140 escape rooms this is easily by far in my top 5. Even before the moment you rock up to the ominous blue door, you’re already playing,” they said.

“Not many escape experiences/games can seem to break through the feelings of “ah its just an escape room” but this one had me questioning at times if the fear I was feeling was real! The way the creator has made these rooms is above and beyond 99% of other rooms I have played. The sheer ingenuity and the way all props are seamlessly integrated into the environment, not only that but the puzzle design makes you feel like a genius when you solve them.”

With a ticking clock and a closed door, this is sure to get hearts pumping for the weekend.
