Continually evolving and now in its ninth year, this festival is right now at the peak of its game and is offering the opportunity of a lifetime for emerging artists from Geelong, Surf Coast or the Otways to score themselves the opening slot on the lineup alongside this year’s eclectic menagerie of artists.
Yes, that’s right… you, your band or one of your favourite local acts could be joining the 2023 lineup, sharing the stage with the likes of this year’s headliners in Philadelphia’s lo-fi rocker Kurt Vile and his band The Violators, London’s post-punk revivalists and noise rock band Black Midi, and the likes of Jen Cloher, Kučka, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Big Scary, Loods, RONA, Agung Mango, Ruby Gill, Komang, Gena Rose Bruce, Delivery, Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice Workhorse and many more.
Previous years have seen victors in Otways artist Watty Thompson, dirty blues outfit Matt Bourke & The Delusional Drunks, and modern rock folk outfit Grand Pine (with roots in Ocean Grove) who had the task of knocking punters straight into festival-mode when the stage powers up on day one. Now they need a new local to take on the 4:30pm slot at the festival on Friday, March 31 2023.
The winner will be selected based on their ability to deliver a live performance suitable for Meadow’s audience and will be required to perform one 30 minute performance comprising of at least 80% original material.
The best part about the competition is that it’s not one of those excruciatingly long applications processes with 101 ridiculous questions. Keeping it simple, all you have to do is fill in your main details (name, email, phone number) and then explain how you or your band are connected to the local area (Geelong/Surf Coast/Otways) in 40 words or less. Finish it up with a link to your music and voilà, you might have just earned your place on the 2023 lineup!
Applications are open now until midnight on January 22 2023 and you can enter here.
With the backdrop of a rugged edge-of-the-world type beauty found only in the Otway Hinterlands, a unique vibe, a killer lineup and BYO, Meadow Music Festival offers uniquely intimate performances with no overlapping set times, perfectly curated for the audiences who attend each year and for artists who want to be heard.
This is an opportunity not to be missed.
Meadow is happening from Friday, March 31 until Sunday, April 2 2023 in Bambra, Victoria. Find out more here.
