“The Penny Drop” single is a sonic rollercoaster, showcasing Mammal’s signature spitfire flair while paying homage to influences like Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament, Skindred, Pantera, Motley Crue, and The Killers. Frontman Ezekiel Ox describes the track as “a call to arms” for justice and a celebration of victories, big or small. According to Ox, “Now more than ever, we need to strut like a catwalk model and demand ceasefire and health, housing, water, and education rights. Who’s with the mighty Mammal?”
Accompanying the release is a vibrant and chaotic music video that perfectly captures the essence of Mammal. Directed by Tristian Braines and shot by cinematographer Samuel Vella, the video promises unforgettable scenes of camp mincing, costume makeup, and disco glitter. As Ox puts it, “Aliens ascend, pimps roam free, and disco bears pummel beats and strings. Bring your dancing shoes.”
Mammal has never shied away from tenacious themes, and “The Penny Drop” stays true to their legacy. The upcoming album, pulsating with pure rock’n’roll, tackles the world’s wrongs while showcasing the band’s eclectic influences. From the stomping fuzz of “Moscow” to the toe-tappin’ funk/rock fusion of “Five Days,” Mammal’s sonic palette is vast and unapologetic.
As Mammal’s back catalogue includes striking singles like “Smash The Pinata,” “The Majority,” “Hell Yeah,” and “Think,” their reputation as a must-see rock’n’roll juggernaut continues to grow. The band’s activism extends beyond their music, with live performances dedicated to raising funds for various charities over the years.
“The Penny Drop” is not just an album; it’s a testament to Mammal’s dynamic and ever-growing legacy. According to Ox, “This album is built for the live stage,” and fans can expect a thrilling experience when they hit the road.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Mammal and mark your calendars for the release of “The Penny Drop” album on March 6.
