In the years since her viral 2016 single Pretty Girl, Lindemann’s work has evolved in a much edgier trajectory, and with her first full-length album “Suckerpunch”— which mixes her overall pop-punk sensibilities with nu metal, hyperpop, and acoustic influences— she continues to carve out her own unique place in the new generation of alt pop.

The emotional onslaught of the album’s lyrics, ricocheting from anger to sorrow and with a healthy dose of bisexual theming in the song she knows it, was created from a deeply personal place according to Lindemann.

“When I was making this, I had those blows in my own life; when I listened to the album back from start to finish, I realized the entire thing was a sucker punch— for myself, for my fans— and I knew it had to be the title,” she says of the recent release. “Writing is my therapy, my way to get what I’m feeling and thinking and going through out so that I can try to move on from it. With this album, I finally knew: ‘I need to let go of this stuff, so I’m just going to write about it.’ I have control over my own life now. I have control over my music and what I want to say, what I want to do, and how I want to do it.”

With over 5.5 million monthly Spotify listeners, over 414 million views on Youtube, and sold-out headline shows, it’s safe to say that Lindemann’s dark, confidential lyrics are speaking to audiences as well, and— in contrast with her musical sound— her artistic future is only getting brighter.

General ticket sale opens Friday, January 20 at 10:00am local time, available at destroyalllines.com
