Follow the warm glow and good vibes to the back of The Espy, where the bright-eyed Louey’s Bar & Kitchen will be serving up flavour-packed, saucy and downright delicious riffs on Italian classics alongside an array of exciting cocktails, local beers and wines from.

Taking over the former Espy Kitchen of the iconic St Kilda pub, the new Italian American-inspired kitchen and bar is a lively yet cosy space, featuring splashes of neon, luxe red leather booths, soft lighting and a disco-ball-inspired DJ booth in the centre of the room. Flamboyant, decorative touches adorn the walls along with a custom-designed mural by local Melbourne artist, @Filthyratbag (Celeste Mountjoy).

Keep up with the latest food and booze news across the region here.

With an atmosphere guaranteed to impress, the food menu designed by Executive Chef Tony Moss levels up the offering even further. All taste buds are covered with both classic and reinvented dishes made with every social outing in mind. Lighter bites like Mini Fried Lasagne, Meatball Pull-Apart Sliders and Louey’s Big Fat Green Olives served on ice are ideal for sharing amongst groups.  While Louey’s Chicken Parmigiana & Spaghetti Meatballs, Tony’s Slipper Lobster Pizza and Big Rigatoni are ideal for empty tummies begging to be filled.

To add to the theatrics, diners will delight in the giant tableside wheel of Parmesan, offering freshly shaved dustings to each of Louey’s big Italian dishes. And no meal will be complete without trying Louey’s signature dessert, a limoncello sorbet served in a whole lemon. This is what foodie dreams are made of.

The drinks menu packs a punch starting with the 2-Sip Martini, a mini martini designed to kick-start the evening. To follow, a unique selection of cocktails that includes the bright and refreshing Hot Pink Chihuahua, the house spin on a classic Spicy Louey Margarita and the Sbagliato Spider, a boozy adult take on the memorable childhood spider.

Alongside the impressive menu, this will be just the place for all those group celebrations and nights out with friends, Louey’s radiates fun, food and frivolity. Big party vibes will take over each weekend as a disco ball descends from the ceiling as the DJ ups the volume.

In fitting with what people know and love about The Espy, entertainment, or ‘dance while you dine’ will be a big focus at Louey’s, with a weekly line-up of entertainment and events:

Louey’s House Band every Wednesday: With a jazzy, funky style covering all those crowd-pleasing classics, Louey’s House Band will play live and loud from 7pm every Wednesday.  The house band will feature a rotating group of exceptional musicians who guarantee an unforgettable evening of live performances each week.

Live DJs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday – Spinning an infectious Itali-disco vibe, house DJs will amp up the energy each week from 7pm, ensuring the party kicks on well into the evening.

‘Pick of the Brunch’ every Saturday – Music enthusiasts will be thrilled with the all-new Louey’s inspired brunch session.   Think a super fun piano bar inspired atmosphere where punters can take their pick of welcome cocktail, brunch item and even music! Hosted by a duo vocalist and keyboard player, brunch goers can share song requests by placing them in a disco ball bowl and kick back as they wait for their tune to be played.  The two-hour session will run every Saturday from 12pm – 2:30pm.

The Espy Venue Manager Chad Kaya said Louey’s is a natural fit for the beloved location, “It’s the ideal space for those wanting a good time and good food, and is the perfect balance between what’s upstairs at Mya Tyger and the casual pub in the main entrance of the building”.

Louey’s Bar & Kitchen is open at The Espy from Wednesday 28 June and bookings can be made here
