Lookout is a premier live music series that honours the very best of alternative rock—featuring timeless tracks and fresh, powerful sounds. This is where rock unites in a unique setting to form an unforgettable and outstanding live music experience. This event is for those who love soaking in electric live music and rocking with their mates on a huge day out – for those who not only want to hear music but to really feel it. What a way to celebrate the rock revolution of Australia then by including three decades of alternative rockstars.
Slamming into the scene in a massive way in 2001 is Melbourne’s Jet. In 2003, their debut album Get Born skyrocketed the band into global glory, selling more than 6.5 million albums globally and securing almost 10 x Platinum certification in Australia and Platinum in the USA and UK. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’, an anthem for the ages, ‘Rollover DJ’, ‘Cold Hard Bitch’ and ‘Look What You’ve Done’, ultimately netting the band 6 ARIA Awards the following year. Following up the success was Shine One, with the titular single continuing the stars rise in addition to hard hitters ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’, ‘Bring It On Back’ and of course ‘Rip It Up’. The platinum album saw them stand up higher, delivering an unforgettable set at Big Day Out in 2007. The band have continued their status, including received the honour of being the 2023 ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductees at the 2023 ARIA Awards.
Fellow Big Day Out alumni and early 2000’s rockers, Grinspoon too have built a strong reputation for rising through the rock ranks. With 14 ARIA Award nominations, over half a million records sold, multi-platinum sales across 25 years, and an untouchable live reputation, Grinspoon have not waivered in their ascent, with 2024 bringing them into a new era thanks to their latest album whatever, whatever. Their eighth studio album and the first new release in twelve years debuted at number three on the ARIA Album charts, accompanied by a sold-out national tour.
Speaking of untouchable artists, The Veronica’s are the most untouched, not just because of their song with the same title. Landing into the alternative rock and pop-punk realm in 2005, the twins from Brisbane have been icons since the stepped foot into the scene with their debut monster The Secret Life Of, with singles ‘4 Ever’, ‘Everything I’m Not’ and ‘When It All Falls Apart’ hooking audiences in. It continued with their follow up Hook Me Up skyrocketing The Veronicas into the USA Billboard charts with their 2 x RIAA Platinum top# 10 Billboard hit ‘Untouched’. There has been no stopping the sisters with 2024 seeing them serve up yet another critically acclaimed number one album with Gothic Summer.
Adding to the huge lineup is Spiderbait, Jebediah, Magic Dirt and Youth Group; all four having shaped generations of rock enthusiasts nationally. ‘Black Betty’, ‘Calypso’, ‘Buy Me A Pony’, ‘Leaving Home’, ‘She’s Like A Comet’, ‘Harpoon’, ‘Dirty Jeans’, ‘Plastic Loveless Letter’, ‘Forever Young’, ‘Start Today Tomorrow’; the impact of these tracks alone from the respective bands turned heads towards Australian’s rock race in a huge way in the late nineties and early 2000’s, popping up in pop culture globally.
