In an Australian first, ALWAYS LIVE will partner with Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) and Mushroom Pictures to launch the inaugural LONGPLAY Music Film Festival across three major regional centres – including Ballarat, Geelong and Bairnsdale.
Launching November 24, some of the best music documentaries from across the globe will be showcased in three regional Victorian locations – Ballarat Regent, Geelong Pivotonian and Sun Bairnsdale covering the Goldfields, Bellarine and Gippsland regions as part of ALWAYS LIVE, a new state-wide celebration of contemporary live music supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria.

Headlining this exciting lineup of music documentaries is The Angels: Kickin’ Down The Door – the new feature documentary about the legendary Australian rock band. Also featuring will be the Sinead O’Connor bio: Nothing Compares, the 4K restoration of Martin Scorsese’s classic The Last Waltz and proving that dreams come true for 1,000 Foo Fighters superfans in Italy, We Are The Thousand.
In a major coup, The Angels brothers Rick & John Brewster will perform an acoustic set of some of their iconic hits on Monday 21 November at the Ballarat Regent Cinema following the film’s premiere screening and will take questions from fans in the audience.
“Mushroom Pictures is excited to partner with MIFF to bring audiences together to experience world-class music documentaries in some of our best regional cinemas,” says Mushroom Studios Chief Operating Officer Bethany Jones.
“Mushroom Pictures and MIFF combining to curate a Music Film Festival program feels like a perfect harmony. We’re delighted to be a part of this very special event beyond our annual MIFF program and to connect these fascinating films with regional Victorian audiences,” MIFF Artistic Director Al Cossar adds.
Mushroom Pictures have been working closely with ALWAYS LIVE to ensure that regional centres are top of mind when designing and rolling out cultural and entertainment programmes and this LongPlay Music Film Festival marks the first of what will be many years of expanded programmes that will stretch across the great state of Victoria.
