Local regional Victorian brewery cleans up at Australian International Beer Awards

Once again, Prickly Moses is an Australian International Beer Award Winner.

Located in the pristine natural environment of the Otway, one of the world’s only coast temperate rainforests, Prickly Moses Brewery is an absolute Forte favourite and has been for some time now.

Brewing since 2007, Prickly Moses produces more than 20 beer styles over the course of each year, from their ever-popular Otway Light, Summer Ale, Otway Pale Ale and Otway Stout, to their more innovative brews such as the Chardonnay IPA, Blueberry Hefeweizen and Black Panther Black IBA, to the Smokie Dawson endorsed cleansing Australian Ale, ChainSAW and bold Black Knight Imperial Stout.

Proving they’ve still got it, Prickly Moses was recognised for their talent in brewing beer on Thursday night at the 2022 Australian International Beer Awards Presentation Dinner, taking home a number of awards.

The AIBA is the biggest annual beer competition around the globe. Over 2,600 entries were evaluated by expert judges, with entries received from more than 350 exhibitors in 19 countries. Prickly Moses brewery received three awards in a variety of categories.

Their new XPA was awarded Silver in the Modern Pale Ale Award (Best Modern Pale Ale) for 2022.

Another silver award was given to the Prickly Moses Red Ale, a medium to full-bodied Irish style ale, while their Prickly Moses Black Knight took home another Bronze award this year.

“To win medals at such an important award ceremony is a huge accomplishment, especially considering that we were competing against some of the best beers in the world,” says Prickly Moses’ head brewer Mattias.

“These awards are a way for us to benchmark our performance and confirm that we’re making great beers.”

Always striving to handcraft the best beer possible, the team at Prickly Moses create these beers to match an appearance, aroma and flavour profile – not a budget – by using only the highest quality ingredients, with no preservatives or artificial colouring.

Made by real, hands-on brewers, they make the most of their location by collecting as much water as possible so that they can brew all of their beers using local rain water from their rainforest. And we know you need good water to make good beer, and there’s really nothing better than water from the lush forests of the Otways.

“The Prickly Moses brewing team has put in an amazing amount of work, I’m proud that their craftsmanship and dedication have been recognised on such a large level,” adds Andrew Noseda, Prickly Moses’ Managing Director.

You can purchase their award winning beers from their online store, the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse is Apollo Bay, Queenscliff Brewhouse in Queenscliff, or from Dan Murphys online.
