Local favourites Rach Brennan & The Pines are calling it quits, announcing final Geelong show

The Geelong five-piece announced they will be taking an indefinite hiatus from June.

Earning themselves a solid reputation for their heartfelt, honest, and relatable brand of the authentic indie-roots pop over the past few years, Rach Brennan & The Pines are calling it quits, announcing one final show in their hometown of Geelong this June.

“After many years, gigs, tours and releases, we have decided to play our last show as Rach Brennan & The Pines,” reads the band’s statement on socials.

“We are so grateful for your support, the ongoing opportunities we’ve had, the people we’ve met and the many collaborators, artists and friends who have some into our life during this chapter. You have encouraged us to continue to create music that inspires and moves us and we cannot thank you enough.

“Above all, we feel so blessed to have done this together as a band. It’s always been so much fun.”

The news comes off the back of their most recent single ‘All Your Favourite Colours’, and two years on from the release of their long-awaited album Here’s to Better Times & Seeing Better, making the news of their impending hiatus all the more poignant.

From the Surf Coast and Geelong, this unique outfit channels frontwoman Rachael Brennan’s experience of rapture and heartbreak expressed through her music. Embracing the honest as well as the dramatic, the band have expertly evolved and subverted the narrative of their roots pop origins, delivering a sound that is completely their own.

Made up on Rachael, her brother (and songwriting partner) Liam Brennan on bass, Levi Anderson as lead guitarist, Kane Sherriff on drums (all three members of The Kite Machine) and Cam Jerabek playing keys, the band was the result of Rach’s longing for a line-up of like-minded, brilliant musicians.

With years of experience shared between all five members, Rach Brennan & The Pines have already shot to national success thanks to their captivating live performances and their distinctive close-knit vocal style, with jaunty and playfully arranged percussive ditties as their signature, supporting a myriad of Australian artists including Bob Evans, The Teskey Brothers, Lisa Mitchell and Sahara Beck. They have also experienced national chart success with their former singles and have performed as festival favourites at Queenscliff Music Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Peaks and Sounds and at Aireys Inlet Music Festival.
