LISTEN OUT For….Jake George

Thanks for chatting with me today! Tell us about yourself?

I’m 24, from Eltham, Victoria. I started playing music when I was 11 years old with my first instrument being the bass. Why a bass of all instruments? I don’t know, but I think seeing the guy at the music shop who played the Seinfeld theme won me over. I played in a band in high school from the age of 14 as a bassist and singer, up until the start of last year where I decided I wanted to do my own thing and try writing my own songs and start something fresh.

If you as a person was a genre, what would it be?

Would have to be alternative – though I guess it depends on the day and how I’m feeling. Alternative can be happy, sad, or something completely crazy, I think a lot of people would fit into the alternative genre.

Describe your current music

A mix of acoustic rock and acoustic pop. I like to be versatile when it comes to songwriting to keep it interesting for listeners.

Where can we find it / See you play?

You can find my music on SoundCloud (www.soundcloud.com/jgeorgemusic) where I have a couple of new original songs uploaded and some acoustic covers. I致e been performing at open mics during weeknights however I have been focusing on writing a batch of new songs ・which I am looking forward to performing in the coming weeks and months.

If you could share the stage with one other artist – who would it be and why?

Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, hands down. My uncle gave me an instructional video with Flea for learning bass not long after I started playing and it opened up my mind in terms of improvising and understanding the instrument. I had about a year of lessons with a teacher until I saw this video and it just changed everything for me. My teachers were good but Flea was my idol and I would love to be on stage with him. You would never catch me wearing the sock though!
