Lineup change and camping announced for Queenscliff’s new music festival, By The Pier

From the team behind Queenscliff Music Festival – the music jewel of the Bellarine – comes a new three-day music festival, By The Pier.

Gifting Bellarine music lovers a second brilliantly curated festival experience alongside QMF, By The Pier is 100% going ahead next month, taking place from March 25-27 2022 at the familiar festival stomping ground of the Queenscliff foreshore.

With just over a month to go, the festival has today announced Sydney teens The Rions will add their explosive brand of urgent indie hooks to the already brilliant lineup.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Performing together since they were 13-year-olds under the guidance of John Stone (Angus and Julia’s father) teen sensations The Rions have spent the years since honing their craft. Hailed as the ones to watch in 2021, taking out Triple J’s Unearthed High off the back of their latest single Night Light these four schoolmates from the northern beaches of NSW have had heads turning with their spin on indie-rock with frontman Noah Blockley capturing the brit-pop swagger of Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner while the rest of the band create a breezy, alt-indie-rock-pop-esque fusion… and they’re only just getting started!

Following their Unearthed High win, the band rocketed up the Shazam charts with their latest track, the guitar driven anthem Night Light produced by Callum Howell of Ocean Alley, (peaking at #36 in Australia) while Triple J fans hammered the textline with praise, leading to Night Light being the 5th Most Played song on the station. Citing influence from Arctic Monkeys, Spacey Jane, Lime Cordiale and The Beatles, they’ve carved out their own sound which seems to be connecting with music lovers everywhere,…and fast! Theres  no doubt they’ll be adding to that rapidly growing following at BY THE PIER.

The Rion join already announced acts Vera Blue, Client Liaison, San Cisco, Julia Stone, Briggs, Electric Fields, Jarryd James, Harvey Sutherland, Thandi Phoenix, Kim Churchill , Pierce Brothers, The Rions, Didirri, Southern River Band,Telenova, Mama Kin Spender, Ryan Downey, Maple Glider, Bones & Jones, Cry Baby, Isabella Khalife, Hassall as well as weekend DJs Chook & Moluck.

In bittersweet news, Sam Teskey will not be performing at By The Pier in 2022. Sam was slated to perform on Friday, March 25.

Alongside the new addition, punters will now be allowed to camp right next to the festival site. Camping tickets are $50 which gets you three nights of camping with toilet and shower facilities included. Bring your own tent (1-2 man tents only), pick a spot and enjoy a short walk to the festival site each and every day.

This latest addition to the huge lineup rounds out what promises to be the hottest musical weekend on the calendar with its beachside, open-air setting, great food options to nourish your soul as well as your tummy and now with camping right near the festival site being added to the many accommodation options, how could you go wrong?

By The Pier takes place from March 25-27 2022 at the same location as the Queenscliff music festival. Single-day tickets are available for $79 and Weekend tickets from $199. Tickets here
