Legendary Norwegian black metal band EMPEROR announce Australian tour

WORDS BY KAYA MARTIN

Look alive, metal heads.

Get your devil horns ready. EMPEROR will be making a glorious return to our shores this autumn for a quick, three-stop tour throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Straight out of Telemark, Norway, the influential band helped create the symphonic black metal sound that their homeland has come to be known for. After selling out two of their inaugural Aussie shows in 2019, they are excited to play for hordes of insatiable fans when they touch down in May.

EMPEROR 2023 Tour

  • May 17 – The Forum, Melbourne
  • May 18 – Metro Theatre, Sydney
  • May 22 – Powerstation, Auckland

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

EMPEROR is unlike any other band. Their mythology precedes them. It’s a tale of burnt Nordic churches, forest assassinations and all-out barbarianism that spans their 30-year career. Their music is unforgiving, sinister and meticulously constructed – a fusion of technical prowess and relentless dark energy.

Each of their four albums has taken a slightly different turn, tethered by frontman Ihsahn’s searing screams. On tour, he’ll be joined by fellow original member Samoth ripping on guitar and Trym Torson tearing it up the drums.

Fans can expect to hear wrathful tracks from the band’s cult classic debut album, In the Nightside Eclipse. At the Australian shows, there will be a chance to grab limited VIP Meet and Greet bundle deals that will give a lucky few the chance to meet with the demigods themselves.

Get ready for a sweaty night in the mosh pit. Make sure you do all of your neck exercises so you can headbang and windmill until the house lights go up. The Forum will never be the same.

Tickets to see EMPEROR in Melbourne on May 17 will go on sale on December 20. Grab yours here
