Last Dinosaurs: Wellness

Brisbane indie-pop punters, Last Dinosaurs, have recently dropped their catchy new album three years after ‘In A Million Years’ and we have Wellness, full of polished tunes, ebbs and flows in all the right places.
The band set up camp on the Central Coast with Producer Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets, Empire Of The Sun) at The Grove Studio, which saw the band immerse themselves in the music they wanted to create. Wellness isn’t like its predecessor, in the sense that there’s more focus on the textured synth melodies rather than on heavy guitar riffs. The synth creates a whole new dimension in their tunes, adding more depth and substance to each track. The intro track, ‘Take Your Time’, eases you into a dreamy cascade of smooth vocals, and playful guitar riffs that make you envision yourself on a road trip, possibly by the coastline whiles front man Sean Caskey sings, ‘How would it seem, if this was all but a dream’ which couldn’t be more fitting.
Although, Last Dinosaurs have been exploring new sounds they haven’t totally abandoned their signature sound; tracks such as ‘Evie’, ‘Karma’ and ‘Always’ both lead with their distinct heavy-riffs and vocal melodies, the perfect songs for summer. ‘Apollo’ is a shimmery slice of pop with effervescent riffs that frontman Sean Caskey has said is inspired by Morpheus’ iconic ‘red pill/blue pill’ scene from The Matrix.
The title track ‘Wellness’ slows things down, proving that Caskey’s lyrical material is still emotive and contemplative regardless of the new change up. Whether this album catapults you into summertime or into self-discovery, Last Dinosaurs’ Wellness is a must have for summer.
