Lagerstein: Party Times Ahoy

They’ve got rum, they’ve got pirate monikers, they fully support any attempt at a shoey, and they get around aboard the S.S Plunderberg flying pirate ship – Lagerstein are clearly the guys to party with. Taking on their pirate identities to a level worthy of praise, the guys are setting sail on their 14 date Australian tour, Suns Out Rums Out.

Lead guitarist Majestic Beast (a name allocated after a big night out) advises Forté to be ready to experience the greatest party Lagerstein have ever thrown as they hit regional towns along the way: “We are very excited to be hitting regional Victoria… You can expect us to be doing plenty of shoey’s and beer bongs, drinking lots of rum and having as much as possible for all the crew,” he says.

Along with the crazy antics (cue crowd surfing and circle pits), the guys will be bringing a massive set to the crowd, playing songs from both their albums, Drink ‘Til We Die (2012) and their massive party album All For Rum & Rum For All (2016).

“We are ready to put on a brand new set and put on an entertaining show as possible,” Majestic Beast says, before adding that the metal pirates will be adding an acoustic touch to their upcoming performances, complete with a jambe.

“The best performance is always crazy, but what we’ve been doing lately is during ‘Drink Til We Die’, we all get down in the crowd and have a sit down with the crowd. Seeing the whole audience sit down and sing ‘Drink Til We Die’ with us is like a magical moment. It’s my favourite moment – sitting on the floor, like a camp-fire sing-a-long,” he laughs. “But we will still be doing walls of death and big circle pits and having shoey-offs and we’ll include all that in the set – it’s a party after all.”

As a unique collection of seven drinking pirate metal musicians hailing from Brisbane, it was these party-antics that originally bought them all together. “We were always the kid, who at the high school party, would be the one rocking up with the esky full of beer. We all come from different backgrounds, but we were always that guy. And now there’s seven of us – the ultimate party coming together.”

Following their Australian run of shows, the guys will be packing up ship and making their third trip over to Europe for the next eight months, for a line up of shows and festivals, and of course, lot’s of partying.

“Basically we will be promoting the album pretty hard but we are taking some time off at the end, like during October-November to knuckle down and try and write some new tunes and get some new inspiration and make it as fun as possible.

“Then we’ll come back and do another homecoming tour after Europe I’m sure, then we’ll knuckle in and record the next album,” which Majestic Beast promises to be the funnest, biggest party album to date.

“We love creating just the real big sound so that’s why we have seven people in the band, incorporating violins, accordions and big brass sections. I’m real happy with the sound and what we’ve made, and I’m keen to just keep progressing forward and see what comes out next.

“At the end of the day, we are all just really good mates and and just love having beers together, and just all we want to do is just have a good time with everyone all over the planet. Come out to the shows, escape for the night and be a pirate, and drink some rum, drink out of a shoe and do a beer bong. Let’s have a good time.”
