Ladyhawke announced for ChillOut, Australia’s largest and longest-running regional LGBTQI+ festival

ChillOut is back in Daylesford for 2022.

Following last year’s slightly reimagined event, ChillOut Festival has announced its dates for 2022, celebrating its 25th year and bringing people together to celebrate LGBTQIA diversity anew with a special performance from Ladyhawke, who will be returning to our shores for the first time in five years.

Keep up with the latest festival and tour news here.

From March 10 until March 14, Australia’s longest-running and largest regional pride festival will take place in regional Victoria’s LGBTI mecca Daylesford once again, inviting visitors to dance, prance, chill and shake a tail feather across four days of fabulous festivity.

With a long history of being out and proud, next year’s event will continue to present a program as diverse as the queer community and its extended family of friends and supporters themselves under the guidance of new festival director Emma Ireland, who has worked with the likes of Revolver Upstairs, Bar Open, The Big Day Out, The Byron Blues Festival, Meredith music festival, Dark Rainbow, and Ballarat frolic festival, to name but a few.

“I am 100 % committed to further development of ChillOut as a major queer community Festival in our Hepburn shire,” Emma says.

“The 25th year of ChillOut brings a fabulous opportunity to celebrate diversity in our queer community but also to reach out and build strong partnerships with other LGBTQIA organisations all around Victoria.”

Ahead of the colourful program announcement, the festival has announced Ladyhawke—the project of New Zealand singer-songwriter Pip Brown —will be performing at ChillOut 2022. Taking to the Daylesford Town Hall ‘Ballroom Blitz’ event on Friday March 11, the esteemed singer will be supported by Melbourne’s Best Rock Band ‘Plaster of Paris’ and the much loved DJ Bangerz n Mash (Tomboy).

Marking her first Aussie tour in five years, Ladyhawke arrives in Daylesford at the end of her tour, where she’ll take to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for a run of dates in celebration of her forthcoming album, Time Flies. The album is preceded by the singles ‘Guilty Love’ (ft. Georgia Nott of Broods), ‘Mixed Emotions’ and ‘Think About You’. The record features production from Nick Littlemore (Pnau, Empire of the Sun), Jono Sloan (Empire of the Sun), Tommy English (Carly Rae Jepsen) and Josh Fountain (Benee). It’s Ladyhawke’s first LP since 2016’s Wild Things. It’s also her first since giving birth to a child with partner, actor and comedian Madeleine Sami, and first since having an invasive melanoma removed in 2018.

You can score a ticket to Ladyhawke at ChillOut here.

Guided by the theme ‘Where the forest meets the dancefloor’, the rest of the colourful program for the Silver Jubilee edition of ChillOut is yet to be announced, although you can expect all the usual events including wellbeing activities, disco parties, DJs, family-friendly theatre and arts events as well as of course the well-loved parade. And judging from the first announcement, the 25th edition of ChillOut is looking to be one of their best yet.
