Coinciding with Father's Day, Kryal Castle is putting on a massive celebration this weekend to celebrate half a century!
Whilst the setting may be replicating the age between 500 to 1500 AD, Ballarat’s favourite medieval adventure park, Kyral Castle, is only in its infancy in comparison. A staple to the Central Highlands, Kryal Castle is celebrating a major birthday milestone nonetheless, turning a huge 50 years old and they are having a big birthday bash this weekend!

Lifting from their normal magical offering of family-fun, the 50 year celebration sees Kryal Castle up put on a party fit for a king including chances to meet the dragons, jumping castles, championship jousting displays, roaming performers, and intense fire shows! No birthday would be complete without music and Kyral Castle are putting on live bands to get the party started. If that wasn’t enough, the celebration will go out with a bang with a spectacular fireworks display igniting the night sky on Sunday.
With so many party activities happening over the three days, here are some of the best bits of 50 years of Kryal Castle.
Daily Program
The Whipping
- When: 11am

Slippery Pete has gotten away with thievery one too many times, and now it’s time for him to pay his debt! But years of being a sneaky scavenger has made him very hard to catch. This slapstick performance will have you rolling on the floor in laughter!
Skill At Arms
- When: 11.30am
- Where: The Main Arena
See the knights and warhorses of Kryal Castle compete in a challenge designed to test their skills with sword, lance and spear!
Clever Dragons
- When: 12.45pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Kryal Castle’s flight of dragons present some amazing feats and special tricks for you to see! Meet Xanther, Kryal Castle’s littlest dragon, Rory, the sassiest dragon, Iggy, who just thinks he’s a puppy dog, and Ishkode who is brand new from the wild and a little bit spicy!
$10k Archery Challenge
- When: 1pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Six brave participants will be randomly selected from the audience for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hit an apple perched at a daring 50 metres! A $10,000 prize awaits a skilled archer with steady hand and the sharp eye! Whether you’re an experienced archer or simply have the courage to take a shot, this is your moment to shine. All participants will win a cash prize if not the jackpot.
The Grand Parade
- When: 1.45pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Join the crew in the Tournament Arena with our dragons, jousters, and favourite medieval characters! If you come in costume, you’re invited to join in the parade too!
Championship Joust
- When: 2pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Return to the Tournament Arena for the ultimate display of knightly skills. See the knights, wearing full steel armour and riding their amazing warhorses, charge and strike their opponents with their lances. Cheer on your favourite champion as they fiercely compete for the Championship title!

Medieval Dance
- When: 2.45pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Get ready for lots of belly laughs as you join us in the arena to learn a traditional 16th century dance called the Schiarazula Marazula.
Birds of Prey Display
- When: 4pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Meet Martin, the local Birds of Prey expert, and his beautiful feathered companions! In the middle ages these glorious raptors were held in such high regard – only the highest in status would keep them. Watch in wonder as they show off their skills in flight and hunting.
Cutting the Cake and Speeches
- When: 5.45pm
- Where: The Main Arena
What birthday celebration would be complete without cake? You’re invited to join the team for some heartfelt speeches and cake cutting ceremony. They will even share the spoils with you!
Fire Joust
- When: 6pm
- Where: The Main Arena
You haven’t seen a joust until you’ve seen it on fire in the twilight hours! Fire performers, flaming lances and a sword fight aflame will be a sight not to be missed.
Fireworks Display
- When: 6.30pm
- Where: The Main Arena
Finish the night with a brilliant fireworks display over the castle streets! The perfect way to end a 50th birthday celebration for Kryal Castle.
