Johnny Cash – The Concert

As we took our seats in a booth at the music venue Palms, Crown, the mood was electric. We were all there for one thing, to see highly acclaimed country singer Daniel Thompson and Guitar legend Stuie French pay homage to the ‘Man in Black’.
In 1968 Johhny Cash performed an iconic album at Folsom Prison. The first part of this concert experience was a cover of that album in its entirety. The Folsom Prison blues lead the train right around the bend to a great duet of Jackson performed with Camille Te Nahu in place of June Carter. The onstage banter and back and forth between band and ‘June’ had the crowd in stitches. Add a few cheeky jokes about prison life and the first half of the concert was a joy to take in.
At the interlude we marveled at the vast drink list on offer, and enjoyed watching the bartender create our cocktails. This another tick for this classy venue. I must also make mention of the fantastic atmosphere and amazing acoustics.
The second half of the show was just as exciting as the first. An incredibly moving cover of my all-time favourite song ‘Hurt’ was a highlight of the night for me. The experience finished with crowd favourite “Ring of Fire”.
Daniel and the band hinted at a tour commencing next year – a must for any Cash fan.
