John Flanagan Trio: Honest Man

The John Flanagan Trio have released their New album on the 20th of April ‘Honest man’. The trio are made up of award winning Songwriter, John Flanagan, Liz Frenchman bass player and virtuoso and mandolin picker Daniel Watkins.
Flanagan says the album: “is definitely my most upbeat release so far, it captures the energy of the live band. We recorded ‘live’ with all the musicians playing together in the same room and you can hear that interaction and spontaneity in the final product.”
The engaging and at times humorous lyrics in the new album zoom from local to Universal themes. In the bluesy banjo track ‘Free John Zarb’ it goes through the story of Melbournian John Zarb who was a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War. It has parts in it that are basically spoken but the lyrics stand out and really move the listener.
‘Beauty on the bottom’s is quite a upbeat, happy song, and was met with great reception when the trio released the album taster mid-2017. ‘Honest man’ was recorded February 2017 over 4 days in Trentham, Victoria. They worked with with engineer Steve Valla while co producing/ mixing engineer Erick Jaskowiak.
The Trio have a big year ahead with spots at Yackandandah and the National Folk Festival followed by their Honest Man album tour. The expansive tour will incorporate cities and regional shows across VIC, NSW, ACT, QLD and SA.
