"Country roads, take me home to the place I belong" - Darren Coggan will be taking on this giant in a tribute performance to American songwriter John Denver

One of the most popular acoustic artists of the 1970s and one of the bestselling artists in that same decade, John Denver has a songbook of anthems that have universally shaped the songwriting landscape.

Now Denver’s works are being celebrated in concert thanks to multi-award-winning performer Darren Coggan. His new show, The Poems, Prayers & Promises of John Denver coming to Geelong Art Centre on Saturday 19 October dives into the journey behind the legend through song and story.

Considered one of Australia’s most masterful storytellers, Darren Coggan takes audiences on a journey through the poems, prayers and promises of the life of John Denver. A country musician, five-time Gold Guitar nominee, actor and theatre performer, Coggan is no stranger to tackling big items having been part of stage productions of Happy Days – The Arena Mega Musical as the lead Richie Cunningham, Grease the Mega Musical playing both Teen Angel and Vince Fontaine and has taken on two Cat Stevens stage shows, Moonshadows, followed by Peace Train – The Cat Stevens Story. For The Poems, Prayers & Promises of John Denver, Coggan is bound to captivate as audiences share in an evening of singing, laughter, and reflection.

Music fans will not be disappointed as Coggan performs all the universal anthems, from ‘Take me Home Country Roads’, ‘Rocky Mountain High’, ‘Annie’s Song’, and ‘Perhaps Love’, to ‘Thank God I’m A Country Boy’, ‘Calypso’ and ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’, to name a few.

“The show celebrates the close relationship and fondness that John Denver had for Australia, which I think helped inspire much of his work,” says Coggan.
