John Butler leads Phillip Island’s Ocean Sounds Festival for January 2023

The festival will return to the serene surrounds of Churchill Island in January 2023.

Hot off the heels of its December edition with Tash Sultana, Pierce Brothers and Kim Churchill, Ocean Sounds Festival will return in January 2023 for its fifth iteration.

The annual family-friendly, music-lovers all-day sunset concert will take place once again on the beautiful Churchill Island (just off Phillip Island) on Saturday, January 7 2023, bringing along a massive lineup headlined by John Butler and The Waifs.

John Butler is one of Australia’s premier alternative songwriters and storytellers with accolades spanning 34 ARIA nominations, three number one albums and 21 triple j hottest 100 entries across his illustrious career as one of the country’s most successful independent musicians.

The original road warriors, The Waifs have built a career out of continually circling Australia and the globe thanks to their enchanting live shows and affable natures. With a career spanning more than 25 years, multiple ARIA Awards, platinum albums, and countless world tours, The Waifs continue to share their folk-infused, feel-good sounds with adoring, now multi-generation audiences.

Joining Butler and The Waifs, the festival will also feature Mama Kin Spender, Steph Strings, Carissa Nyalu and The Laing Brothers.

The event will see the picturesque space filled to the brim with picnic rugs, smiling friends, stunning local wines, gourmet food vans, and cheeses while the summer sun softly sets over the ocean to the sounds of some of Australia’s most amazing live musicians. The perfect summer day.
