Jetty Road Brewery has popped up on the Surf Coast

1 / 5

Nothing goes hand-in-hand with a beach trip like a fine craft beer.

Backyard cricket. Filling the esky. BBQ’s. Slip Slop Slap. Heading to the coast. This time of the year is a timely reminder of just how good life is… and Jetty Road Brewery has made it even better by making the leap across the bay to open a second location in Lorne.

The key takeaways

  • Jetty Road Brewery has opened a taproom in Lorne
  • It’s become one of the coolest destinations for drinks in the sunshine
  • You’ll find ice cold beer, beach classic food items and cocktails

Created by two local boys from the Mornington Peninsula (Grant Rogers and Blake Bowden) with the desire to create quality beer, a taste for adventure and a healthy appreciation of the good life, Jetty Road Brewery and their sizeable roster of freshly brewed beers has quickly become a favourite amongst craft beer aficionados since opening in 2018.

And now they’ve brought a slice of that action to the coast, opening up a taproom in Lorne late last year.

Located directly across the road from Lorne Beach on Mountjoy Parade, Jetty Road has taken over the former Cuda Bar which has been completely redesigned by Melbourne interior architecture firm Studio Y. Making full use of its prime location and pristine views, the pop-up can host around 150 beer lovers, making good use of the refreshed beer garden.

Embracing 70s beach vibes with bright whites, cool shades of blue, timber fans and pops of rustic orange on both the interior and the exterior, the taproom itself brings all the best bits of the Dromana brewery, combined with the calming and laid-back qualities of a coastal living. Inside, the walls are decorated with a Jack and Josh Mural in true JR brewery style, while outside lay colourful booths and fresh picnic tables made for groups.

Inside, all your Jetty Road favourites will be served ice cold from the tap including the Pale Ale, XPA, IPA, Draught and Blueberry Sour. If beers not your thing, the venue also serves a collection of cocktails that just scream summer, featuring award-winning gins from Kangaroo Island Spirits and NoSh, seltzers and ciders, as well as a strong local selection of wines.

Already a standout among the coolest destinations for drinks in the sunshine, it’s their menu that reinforces just how cool with a nod to all the beach classics. There’s Apollo Bay lobster rolls, buckets of locally sourced seafood, JFC (JettyRoad Fried Chicken), pulled pork rolls, buttermilk chicken Schnitz, and steak and chat potatoes, among other drinking-friendly bites to share.

This might just be the new beachside haven that you’ll never want to leave.

Jetty Road Brewery’s Taproom is located at 82 Mountjoy Parade, Lorne and is open all summer long from Wed – Sun 11:30am to late. Check out their website here.
