Jeremy Loops is hitting Melbourne this week

South Africa’s biggest contemporary music export Jeremy Loops is making his return to Australia and New Zealand following on from his successful visit in 2016 which sold out.
His new shows are part of a massive global tour with 27 shows across ten countries, kicking off in March to celebrate the album’s release and winding its way through Europe, the UK, the US, Canada and finally Australia and New Zealand in May.
These shows are in celebration of his mew album, Critical As Water. This marks the follow up to his critically acclaimed debut Trading Change- which won MTV Africa’s Alternative Album of the Year, and iTunes SA’s Album of the Year.
Produced by Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, Lilly Allen, Bastille), with additional production contributions by Jake Gosling (James Bay, The Libertines, Shawn Mendes), Loops has stepped it up with his new release – and we are loving it!
The theme of water runs deep through the album. Where ‘Waves’ is breezy and light, ‘Underwater Blues’ speaks to the weightlessness of insomnia in a hyper-connected always-on world, rewarded only by the release of sleep – a sort of deep submergence.
Reflected through the album is the real water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa, Jeremy’s home town, these themes come up on songs like ‘Flash Floods’ and a hauntingly beautiful ballad called ‘Vultures’, a more terrifying or apt backdrop to the album’s release cannot be conceived.
This Thursday, Loops will be joined by Melbourne’s Woodlock and Ruby Gill, who have been making excellent examples for themselves as emerging Australian artists to be watching this year. Safe to say they are stoked to be on board.
Catch him play at Corner Hotel, Melbourne – Thursday May 24. For tickets pleased visit: www.jeremyloops.com/tour
