What is there to say about Jeff Lang? Well for one, he’s one of the best blues guitarists in the country and if you get the opportunity to chat to him at a gig, you’ll soon see he’s a top bloke as well. Alone in Bad Company is the latest offering for Lang and opening with ‘Fugitive Ghosts’ you are immediately transported into his world of diverse characters that have been present throughout a 20+ year career in the industry. Although maybe a little slow to pick up speed, this track is the opening to what is an album highlight of 2017 so far.
‘Burnside’ is one of the singles that we’ve heard previously, but still it is a stand-out on this record, showcasing the fast fingers that make him an encapsulating performer to see live. One to further his sound through the use of different and unique instrumentation on each album, AIBC is an album that will broaden your mind and musical tastes. His astounding ability on the axe can be seen in the short instrumental ‘Nocturne For Tangle Eye’ which says more than is needed with words.
Album highlights include ‘Smarts Hill Road’ and ‘Drive All Night’, Alone in Bad Company is a captivating album that has enough under the surface to have you digging in again and again for another listen. Be sure to catch Lang on tour between March and June.
