The Show After Dark has Melbourne audiences covered with live music, motocross and death-defying stunts as the city celebrates the return of Spring to the city. We spoke to one of the program’s star attractions – British India – about what Melburnians can expect.
The Melbourne Royal Show is a perennial highlight on Melbourne’s busy calendar, a reason to celebrate as we mark the return of spring across the city after a particularly long and chilly winter. When the sun begins to set on the Melbourne Royal Show ‘The Show After Dark’ provides a unique entertainment program with live music, a laser light show, motocross, and a grand illusionist.
Presented in association with world-class entertainment company Live Nation, After Dark is a unique celebration of food, drink, music, and live entertainment. The program runs nightly from 5pm at Melbourne Showgrounds from September 22 – October 2 and boasts a huge lineup for all ages. The world-class laser light show and nightly show spectaculars will kick the After Dark entertainment off each night from 7pm before live music takes over.

The nightly shows include Cosentino The Grand Illusionist who will display mind-blowing illusions and death-defying stunts. An internationally acclaimed magician and escapologist, Cosentino continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible showcasing tricks guaranteed to leave Melbourne audiences astounded. Catch Cosentino nightly from 7pm on the main stage in the Entertainment Precinct.
The Airtime Freestyle Motocross Stunt Show is another highlight of the nightly show, with the motocross collective delivering captivating and jaw-dropping freestyle motocross, see riders fly high up close and personal in this incredible display of skill and bravado from 7pm each night.
Live music from the likes of British India, The Veronicas, Baker Boy, Motor Ace, Sneaky Sound System, and a host of others will provide the soundtrack to a night to remember with acts performing from 8pm on the main stage at the entertainment precinct. Incredible value at only $25 entry after 5pm, an After Dark ticket or a Melbourne Royal Show ticket will admit you to the Show After Dark.

We spoke to Matt from popular Melbourne act British India about what it means to be asked to participate in the ‘After Dark’ show this year and what those attending can expect from the band.
Matt says, “Well, we got approached and it (After Dark) has got such a fantastic reputation – especially post-covid now that everything’s coming back to normal to get these gigs, these opportunities are a real blessing.
“Having two years of doing nothing, to now get on this and play this show it’s an amazing opportunity. As soon as we got the offer it was a no-brainer.”
Matt believes approaching the After Dark series is different to the run-of-the-mill live performance: “You don’t really know what you’re getting into. At this stage in our career, we know what a festival is like, we know what our headline shows are like, but to go into this is new. It’s a new environment – you’re playing to people who probably haven’t heard of your band and it’s in Melbourne too. So, to do something that’s new and exciting in your hometown, it’s awesome.”
Matt says British India like mixing it up. “We try and not do the same thing twice. If people yell a song out, we’ll play it. We’re not very picky when it comes to set orders, it’s a party.
“Each time British India get a chance to play together these days it’s a celebration and party atmosphere and it’s definitely special.”
