‘I’m really sorry’: Jimmy Barnes pulls out of By The C festival in Torquay

Words by Staff Writer

By The C Torquay will rock on with all-star lineup despite Jimmy Barnes setback.

In a shattering turn of events, the legendary Jimmy Barnes has pulled out of the highly anticipated By The C event in Torquay this Saturday, December 2.

Barnes is currently receiving treatment for bacterial pneumonia, a setback that also forced him to miss the Rock the Boat music cruise earlier in the week. Replacing the Aussie legend is a stellar lineup featuring Jon Stevens, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite, and surprise appearances, ensuring the show goes on.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

The By The C team confirmed the unfortunate news via social media, assuring fans that Barnes’ band would still grace the stage, joined by the incredible vocal talents of Stevens, Moss, Braithwaite, and even Barnes’ own offspring, Mahalia Barnes and David Campbell. Together, they’ll deliver an unforgettable performance, rocking out to Cold Chisel classics and Barnes’ solo hits.

Barnes’ replacement band will feature alongside The Living End, Birds of Tokyo, Pete Murray and Kasey Chambers at Torquay’s By The C tomorrow, Saturday December 2.

“I know a lot of people travel a long way for this gig so I’m really sorry that I won’t be able to see you in Torquay as I’d hoped”, said Jimmy Barnes.

“This infection has knocked me for six so there’s no chance that the Doctors will let me out of bed for the next few days. I’d like to thank my dear friends Mossy, Jon and Daryl, plus my wonderful kids Mahalia and David for putting together this unique show with my live band. It’s never been done before so I wish I could be there to see it myself! Again, I’d like to apologise to everyone – if I could be there I would be there – but it’s still going to be a helluva show.”

The lineup adjustment follows Barnes’ recent announcement of his health challenges, revealing he’s been “receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia.”

As the iconic Jimmy Barnes takes time to recover, Torquay Common will still echo with music, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.
