"It was the dream to create a significant record label 26 years ago, and we chose the most tumultuous period in the history of the music industry to make our mark"
As the music industry evolves, one of Sydney’s iconic labels, Elefant Traks, bids farewell after an illustrious 26-year journey, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, resilience, and artistic excellence.
Founded on the eve of its 25th anniversary, Elefant Traks emerged from a profound sense of loss and urgency in the life of its founder, Kenny Sabir. What began as a spontaneous effort to create a mixtape of original music for a departing friend overseas soon blossomed into a platform for activism, creativity, and musical exploration.

Over the past quarter-century, Elefant Traks has served as a beacon of independent artistry, releasing nearly 1300 songs, 66 albums, and 40 EPs. From national and international tours to captivating live performances, the label has been instrumental in shaping the Australian music landscape.
At the heart of Elefant Traks are its artists, who have defined its essence and spirit. From trailblazers like Hermitude, The Herd, and Horrorshow to emerging talents like OKENYO and L-FRESH The LION, the label has nurtured a diverse roster of musicians who have left an indelible mark on the industry.
“Elefant Traks supported me in my early music career journey when others overlooked my talent or didn’t understand my potential. If it weren’t for their support, I wouldn’t be the artist I am today,” L-FRESH The LION says.
Tim ‘Urthboy’ Levinson, who has steered the label since 2002, has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of artists and fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration. Likewise, Dale Harrison, bass player in The Herd and a longstanding member of Elefant Traks, has contributed to the label’s visual direction and production.
