Nestled in the beautiful seaside village of Apollo Bay and worthy of lengthy road trips to ice-cream lovers state-wide, Dooley’s Ice Cream is famed for their award-winning ice cream, developing quite a cult following amongst locals and tourists alike since opening their doors in 2000.
And when we say award-winning, we really do mean it. Their Chocolate Ice Cream took out the Australian Grand Dairy Award title for 2019, and they’ve collectively won over 500 awards since ’08! We don’t even know how that’s possible but it certainly hints that they’re doing something right.
While road tripping to Apollo Bay was the only way you could previously get your hands on the goods, ‘Hooley Dooley Ice Cream’ has arrived as our saving grace, slinging scoops of the decadent iced treats to the Geelong community.

Made using the finest ingredients, Dooley’s ice creams have a unique creamy texture and flavours so varied and exciting that indecision abounds as you gaze through the cabinet – and there are more than 40 flavours to choose from at the new store!
Alongside the classic and refined flavours, we’ve also seen a slew of experimental or extravagant flavours, including the likes of Bailey’s, vegemite, Cointreau, Cookies & Cream, Coffee Choc Crunch, Vovo, Chili Chocolate, Honey Malt, Jamaican Rum (chocolate rum & raisin) and licorice.
They also offer authentic gelato (Coffee Choc Crunch, Mango, Mint choc chip, Peanut butter and Matcha Green Tea with White Choc ripple) and vegan-friendly sorbet in flavours like strawberry, banana Cinnamon, Sugar-free Chocolate, Black Paradise (cocoa, coconut, charcoal), Lemon and Mango.
What we love most about this ice creamery is that it’s got the community’s health and needs at the fore, with a food-allergy legend clearly visible on their cabinet. You can clearly see which ice creams contain or have traces of nuts, gluten, egg, and gelatine, making buying ice cream a seamless experience for all.
Focusing on decadent, seasonally driven scoops, Hooley Dooley is truly bringing a fun, nostalgic edge to Geelong with their excellent milkshakes, sundaes, a fairy floss machine and takeaway tubs too – all served in brilliant biodegradable packaging. And we haven’t even made mention of the bright and bold fit-out, decked with neons and pastel-coloured furniture and walls. You’ll fall in love with just one look.
While lockdown means we can’t enjoy the gorgeous fit-out, you can still indulge in all your ice cream fantasies with takeaway scoops as well as their famed mix n match tubs, available in 500g, 1 litre and 1.5 litre… AKA a great bribery treat for those who are homeschooling the kids.
