Geelong After Dark is the Geelong event of the year where the CBD comes alive on a Friday evening after 6pm.
The event is a chance to head out after dark and see what the city, and its many creatives, has to offer. This year’s event is under the theme, ‘The Sound of Light’ and features more than 25 different installations, exhibitions and experiences. We’ve outlined a few of our highlights below.
The Dress
With this interactive performance it explores the concept of light as an element of clothing. This show goes for 10 minutes with a 45 minute interval throughout the night.
Create your own ’80s hit in the Field of Beams
Step into an invisible light field of infrared beams, strike a pose and let the creation of your new hit begin. The sound is created through the movement of your body to control synthesizers, fat beats and robotic lighting in real time. The experience utilises virtual reality technology with musical control software put together by the team at Codeacious.
Where: 113 Little Malop St, Geelong
A CircArts Performance
A gauranteed good time, CircArts’ performances are all about engaging the audience through prompting curiosity, emotion and disbelief.
Where: Johnstone Park
Constellation River of Words
As you approach the City Hall foyer, a collection of books will be stacked to form your pathway into the “river of words”. The foyer will be blackened out, with a projected river glistening in the space instead. Books will be positioned on desks in the space for attendees to add to their future vision for Geelong.

Mountain to Mouth @ Geelong After Dark: Connecting Song
Connecting Song has been an ongoing project which picked three emerging musicians in Geelong to be paired up with three established musicians. Out of the project a song was written and recorded about their town, with a music clip also made. The clip and songs will all debut at this year’s Geelong After Dark.
Where: 77-79 Little Malop Street, Geelong (Beav’s outdoor space).
Geelong After Dark takes place this Friday, May 5 from 6-10pm. To find out more information visit the website.
