Following a sold-out launch event, Red Bull returns to Melbourne on Saturday, July 20 for an all-day party by Detroit favourite Kyle Hall, and Australian talent Otologic, Ben Fester, Millú and Emma Stevenson.
Set to be another unmissable exploration of sounds unexpected, with more than enough thump to keep the momentum travelling, we got Melbourne’s hypnotic Millú to share five of the best 90s rave tracks to help hype us all up for the event.
ANOESIS – RHYTHMIC ITCH (1994)
From one of my all time favourite records (it’s almost always in my bag) – this A-side jam grinds along with a relentless energy that whips the dancefloor into shape for it’s whole 7 minutes – it’s a bit of trance, a bit of bleep, a bit of rave and everything in between.
KAOTIC CHEMISTRY – DRUM TRIP II (1992)
This one’s from 1992, at the height of rave – Kaotic Chemistry (aka 2 Bad Mice) serving up some frenzied jungle. It’s a guaranteed floor shaker of wildest proportions.
DJs FRICTION & SPICE – GROOVE ME (DUB) (1994)
This track gets my vote as the best from DJs Friction & Spice, though there’s so many amazing tracks of there’s that I have on high rotation. The piano break on this is too good to go past though – one for the early hours.
DJ SEDUCTION – BLEEP BLEEP MASH MASH (1991)
It’s all in the name, really. A quintessential 90s breaks number with plenty of bleeps n bloops.
HYSTERIX – TALK TO ME (SASHA’S FULL MUSICMASTER) (1994)
I couldn’t sign off on this list without a) a little bit of prog and b) some Sasha, so here we have it – an absolute jam with an incredible vocal to seal the deal. Shut up and take my money!
The doof goes down Saturday July 20 in a warehouse space, 524 Flinders St in the CBD. Tickets here.
