Heck yes, live music is returning to the Surf Coast

Music is back at The Torquay Hotel and Barwon Heads Hotel.

In the Beforetimes, The Torquay Hotel was one of the best places to go for a couple of brewskies, a crowded bandroom and incredible Australian music. The iconic regional music venue has seriously blossomed over the last few years, hosting a slew of high calibre acts most weekends.

From the likes of Melbourne’s Slowly Slowly, Press Club, Montaigne, Something for Kate frontman Paul Dempsey, acoustic indie-folk duo The Dreggs and Aussie legends Spiderbait, to Sydney’s raw-power Ruby Fields, The Beautiful Girls, Californian act The Growlers and the mighty The Amity Affliction, the hotel just kept delivering the goods!

When COVID-19 (aka the rollercoaster we wish we never went on) hit back in March, the hotel was forced to postpone their bountiful winter lineup of gigs, from G Flip, Client Liaison, and Holy Holy, to Thelma Plum and The Rubens. Since then, the hotel has been a bit broken-hearted and so have we.

But this isn’t a piece about our bruises, this is a piece about hope with the news that live music is back!

Announced on Tuesday morning, Aussie blues and roots muso C.W. Stoneking will be taking to both The Torquay Hotel and The Barwon Heads Hotel next month for an intimate performance outdoors in the venue’s beer gardens.

The bona fide king of old-time blues will perform both an early show, and a late show at The Barwon Heads Hotel on Thursday December 10, and at the Torquay Hotel on Friday, December 11. The late show at Torquay has already sold out but tickets are still available for the remaining three.

While it won’t the what we’re used to experiencing at the hotel, with an intimate seated dinner and a show, this is only the beginning of what’s to come. The weather is heating up down on the Surf Coast and we’ve got a good feeling that the acts coming into the Torquay Hotel are going to be doing the same thing.

You can purchase tickets to the shows here.
