Celebrating Buzz, the King of Kings when in full swing.
Everyone has a story from a gig at the BC; from Henry Rollins kicking a guy in the face, to the time Ox from Poppin Mommas took a 9-inch grinder to a cymbal, or when Magic Dirt were young and full of the devil.
Established since 1990, The Barwon Club Hotel has proved to be Geelong’s leading venue for live bands. They were at the crux of the Geelong ’90s rock scene, and they’ve gone from strength to strength ever since, providing G-town with a steady flow of live bands, cold beer and wild stories.
Throughout it all, one man has always been there: Buzz (or Jason Bee as he is sometimes known).
A humble concreter we can partly thank for the creation of River Rocks Festival – the self-funded festival that’s featured some dream bands over the years – Buzz has become part of the furniture at The Barwon Club – so much so that they’re throwing his a birthday party to celebrate the big 50!
Titled Buzzbash 50th Edition, the festivities feature a huge handpicked line up by the River Rocks kingpin himself. Headlining the evening is none other than Melbourne pub rockers Grindhouse, Adelaide Yob Rockers Meatbeaters, Melbourne two-piece Digger & The Pussycats, local doom metal band Dr Colossus, Geelong legends Poppin’ Mommas and up and comers Sacramento Sweaters.
Slated for Saturday, February 20, the event will kick off with 40-minute performances from 5:30pm, right through to the last set from Grindhouse at 10:30pm. Doors are at 5pm and this is an 18+ event. For any regular at the BC, or to anyone who has had the pleasure of witnessing a night on the sauce with Buzz, this promises to be a celebration you will not want to miss.
Tickets go on sale this Thursday, January 21 from 10am via barwonclub.com.au
