Grab your best amigos and go loco for some of the best Mexican food in the Geelong region

Daydreaming of a taco or five? Can’t get margaritas and mezcal off your mind? This ones for you.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best restaurants to get your Mexican fix in Geelong and the Surf Coast. Offering up some of the best tacos, burritos and cocktails in the region, grab a mate (or a couple) and start crossing these restaurants off your must-go-to list.

El Santo
El Santo aims to bring a taste of Mexican passion to Geelong. Offering an extensive menu of authentic Mexican favourites including tacos, burritos and chimichangas there’s something for everybody. Oh and there’s even house-made bunuelos AKA Mexican style donuts. El Santo offers a huge range of cocktails and drinks to die for set amongst the vibrant coloured tile backdrop, plus they run the famed ‘Taco Tuesdays’ with $4 tacos, $4 beers and $4 shots. A neon sign adds to the aesthetic of El Santo, the bright colours and vibrant tunes giving all the Mexican vibes you could dream of. EL Santo is offering up drool worthy (and gram worthy) food and bevvies six days a week right in the heart of central Geelong.

Bobby Dre’s
A new addition to the Pakington street food scene is Bobby Dre’s. The newest addition offers up a bunch of burgers as well as tacos and nachos. Boasting handmade tortillas that are made fresh in house every day, Bobby Dre’s is bringing authentic Mexican food to Pakington street. Offering up sweet deals as well as great food, taco Tuesdays sees Bobby Dre’s pumping out two tacos for 9 bucks or three for $12.50. Bottomless lunch is also an option at Bobby Dre’s, for $55 a head you can smash a four-course meal of tacos and nachos and as many coronas, sangrias or margs your heart desires.

Perla Tacos
This licensed taqueria in Torquay is serving up tacos, nachos and burritos for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. Specialising in tacos and burritos, Perla tacos uses high quality, fresh ingredients as well as only cruelty-free farming products. Boasting entirely gluten-free tortillas and an extensive list of vego tacos, Perla Tacos is making sure there’s something for everybody.

El Barquero
Sitting beachside in Queenscliff is hidden gem, El Barquero. Slinging traditional Mexican street food and drinks coupled with a fun, festive and cruisey vibe, El Barquero is hard to pass up. With three for $20 mix and match tacos, burritos and quesadillas, El Barquero also offers up fish and chips, or burgers if Mexican food isn’t your vibe. The drinks menu is the star of the show, however, boasting a huge range of chupitos (shots) to really get you in the mood for food. Can’t decide on which shot to try first? El Barquero has you covered with its shot flights, mixing and matching four of your favourite tequila shots for 38 bucks.

Tacos y liquor
One of the newest additions to Little Malop streets impressive foodie scene is tacos y liquor. Just as the name suggests, tacos y liquor is open five days a week to fulfil your wildest boozy taco dreams. With margaritas and palomas up for grabs, and tequilas and mezcals also on heavy rotation, tacos y liquor is providing quality drinks with even better food. Providing four mouth-watering taco options available to mix and match, as well as tostadas that feature scallop and cactus, tacos y liquor is bringing authentic Mexican food and drinks to the heart of Geelong’s CBD.

Alisitos
Another hidden gem located in Torquay is Alisitos. Located on Bell Street, the Baja Bar and Grill is slinging authentic Mexican food and cocktails for dinner six days a week. With six (yes six!) different type of taco offerings, as well as burritos and quesadillas for the hungrier folk. Alisitos has something to get everybody’s mouth-watering. Their full menu is also available to take away, adding takeaway margs to the list if a beachside Mexican picnic is more your style. If dining in is your preference, walk-ins are welcome and encouraged at Alisitos, however if you really don’t want to miss out, we recommend booking via their website.

Mexican Graffiti
A staple in the Geelong Mexican food scene. One of the cities longest standing Mexican restaurants is Mexican Graffiti (and there’s a reason it’s been around for so long!). The Californian style Mexican food has options for everybody, with frozen margaritas as well as local and imported beers to accompany your Mexican feast, Mexican Graffiti has earnt its title as a staple family-friendly venue in Geelong. Plus, you get to raise a flag when you’re ready to order.

The Mex
The Mex has made a name for itself as one of the most iconic restaurant and bars along the Bellarine Peninsula. Located in Ocean Grove The Mex has been delivering delicious Mexican cuisine to the Ocean Grove locals for years. With an extensive menu of tacos, burritos and fajitas, you’re spoilt for choice at this venue. Sip on frozen margaritas or a cold corona in the beer garden or dine inside by the fire on the cooler nights. The Mex has become a staple in authentic, fast and delicious Mexican cuisine.

Mexicali Mama
Open Tuesday-Sunday, Mexicali Mama is dishing up some of the best Santa Fe style Mexican food in the region. Another long-standing staple restaurant in Geelong, Mexicali Mama has been dishing up fresh and delicious Mexican food for 25 years. The family-run business has a huge menu boasting tacos, taquitos, burritos and queso sure to get the whole families mouths watering. Open six days a week, Mexicali Mama also offers and extensive takeaway menu if dining in just isn’t your thing.
