Acclaimed Sydney-via-Canowindra musician Gordi is the latest artist to bring music to the streets of Melbourne as part of the Victorian Government’s On The Road Again initiative.

Fresh from teaming up with Troye Sivan on the new single ‘Wait’, Sophie Payten – the folk-pop singer and producer known as Gordi  – will take to the Melbourne CBD this week, performing a free pop-up gig in the street tomorrow as part of the Victorian Government’s On The Road Again initiative.

Gordi will perform near the GPO Steps in the Bourke Street Mall at 5pm Friday, 4 March 2022.

Already the city has seen hundreds of talented performers who have already taken part in the initiative, which kicked off in February and will run until the long weekend in March. Alongside the city’s massive busking program, the initiative has also been showcasing Melbourne’s spectacular live music scene with surprise gigs by some of our state’s best and brightest performers. So far we’ve seen pop-up performances from the likes of Alice Skye, Kaiit, Hayley Mary, Fergus James and Uncle Kutcha Edwards who will perform today. Joining this talent-packed list of performers, Gordi will play a set from the GPO Steps in Bourke Street Mall tomorrow, bringing her beautiful voice to the city streets once again.

Since her globally acclaimed debut in 2017, the ARIA nominated artist has quickly become one of the most cherished Australian Indie/folk songwriters, recognised for a unique and progressive approach to her craft, while anchored to a deep connection with traditional songwriting skills. The singer’s last album, Our Two Skins, came out in June 2020, winning Best Independent Pop Album or EP at the 2021 AIR Awards, and peaking at number 18 on the ARIA Album Chart.

Gordi has collaborated and performed with artists including the aforementioned Troye Sivan, Bon Iver, members of Sigur Ros, Sam Smith, Julien Baker and Missy Higgins. Her work has won awards from triple j, FBi Radio, APRA, PPCA, and the Australia Council for the Arts as well as multiple features in local and international media including Pitchfork, BBC, The Guardian and more.

Outside her music, the singer also completed her medical studies over the past six years, becoming a Doctor amidst international tours and her blossoming music career. Throughout COVID she spent most of her time between Victoria and New South Wales working in multiple hospitals, all while releasing her album and performing a number of unique shows including a live stream from the Sydney Opera House, singing the national anthem at The Australian Open’s Women’s grand final and Channel 9’s “Sounds Better Together” TV broadcast.
