Golden Plains is celebrating the double digits this year and its got a surprise act already announced for the bill. In honour of the festival’s birthday, Eddy Current Suppression Ring are coming out of a six-year sabbatical for a one of set at The Sup’ and to celebrate 10 years to the day since they placed Golden Plains.
In the words of Golden Plains, here’s how the festival sums up its 10 years:
“The Very First Golden Plains started with a long blink and a baptism; The Boot started out of thin air; the very first artist to play was a little known Shepparton dude called Muscles; Pavement reformed and chose GP IV to play their 2nd show in 11 years; ‘the Ween rumour’ came true via a two-hour set after which Gene Ween told Aunty “you’ve got a good thing going here – now don’t f**k it up”; Bon Iver played Sunset at Golden Plains Sixxx – followed by Australia’s premier Kiss tribute act Kisstroyer (of course); crazy Israeli circus rock band Monotonix used the crowd as a stage; The Slits’ stage invasion was one of their last shows before founder Ari Up tragically left us; the late garage guitar great Jay Reatard posthumously released ‘Live At Golden Plains’; Public Enemy fought the power and won; Flavour Flav plugged his Twitter; Hawkwind plugged their merch; Adalita smashed her Gibson; Optimo brought up the Sun; Pulled Apart By Horses floated from the stage to the Pink Flamingo Bar; virtual unknowns Client Liaison thrilled in a headline spot with a fax machine and pastel panache; George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic landed from Outerest Space; Village People pumped out the mega-hits at The Ninth Life as a giant mirror ball spun from a giant crane high above them….eeerrrmmmm….so much more….Roky Erikson, Os Mutantes, Cat Power, Dinosaur Jr, Joanna Newsom, Flying Lotus, Old Crow Medicine Show, DJ Shadow….so many Sunsets, Dan Deacon impromptu party at the Bush Camp dunnies, Charles Bradley’s bittersweet tears, Leunig Keynote, Nile Rodgers and Chic….and on and on and on.”
