The City of Melbourne is relaunching its Melbourne Money rebate program, offering 30 per cent rebates to diners.
We love a good scheme, especially when it involves saving money, food and reinvigorating the state all in one.
Building on the previous Melbourne Money rebate program – a Victorian Government initiative which allowed diners to claim 20 per cent off their dining bills just by uploading a receipt from cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars back in June – visitors to the city now have another incentive to get back to CBD dining with ‘Midweek Melbourne Money’.
Using the same concept that generated $40 million in revenue for city cafes and restaurants in June and July, ‘Midweek Melbourne Money’ will now offer 30-per cent rebates on dining in the CBD, including at Lygon Street, North Melbourne, Southbank, South Wharf and Docklands between Monday–Thursday.

The $5 million round of rebates will kick off on Monday, November 15, and apply to food and drink purchases in-store anywhere that meals are sold in the city, such as restaurants, cafes and pubs, as well as bars, clubs, breweries and distilleries. Much like in June, the rebate will cover 30-per cent of your transaction as long as you spend between $50–500 (including GST), allowing claims of up to $150.
Unlike last time, ‘Midweek Melbourne Money’ will only be available to claim during the week, from Monday to Thursday in a bid to boost foot traffic on weekdays around Southbank, Chinatown, Lygon Street, Docklands, North Melbourne and Kensington and at hospitality venues within sporting, arts and theatre precincts.
More than 200,000 rebates will be up for grabs at restaurants, cafes and bars where meals are served across the City of Melbourne, and it works on a first in, first served basis with the scheme running until funds are exhausted. So, if you’re wanting to cash in, we recommend heading out as soon as the scheme starts and submitting your claim for a rebate immediately afterwards.
To claim the offer, all you’ll have to do is follow these three simple steps:
1. Once you’ve finished your meal, pay for the bill in full and collect the itemised receipt.
2. Upload your receipt and bank details via the secure Melbourne Money website.
3. The 30 per cent rebate will be credited to your nominated bank account within five business days after their claim has been approved.
The scheme falls under the Victorian Government and City of Melbourne’s recently announced $200 million Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund, which is all about helping get the city back into gear following the latest lengthy lockdown.
Alongside Melbourne Midweek Money, a total of $10.4 million will go towards bolstering businesses, also including support for outdoor trading and dining through permit fee waivers and new infrastructure, and initiatives to boost the night-time economy, and an allocation of $15.7 million will bolster the city’s events calendar, with an expanded Christmas Festival starting two weeks earlier than usual – next Friday, 12 November.
On top of that, more than $14 million will be invested to enhance public areas, refreshing familiar places with pop-up libraries and creative spaces and a further $3.6 million will provide city businesses with an enhanced Business Concierge service to provide greater support for new businesses and help existing city traders adapt to the post-COVID economy.
