After only one year in business, Surfcoast Gallery has become renowned for its vibrant, colourful and coast-inspired art.
Unique, versatile and colourful, the Surfcoast Gallery has become an unmissable attraction in Torquay since opening its doors almost 12 months ago.
Inspired and utterly devoted to bringing quality art, classes, workshops and exhibitions to the coast, Jacki Burke – an artist and creative educator – opened up the gallery because of the town’s exponential growth and need for a quality gallery and art space.
Now in just one year Surfcoast Gallery has become the go-to gallery, workshop space, and event space on the Surf Coast. With its beautiful and vibrant windows beaming along the Surfcoast Highway, the gallery has become an important new art space to promote local art and will be celebrating its first milestone with a one-year anniversary exhibition this April.
Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.
Taking place at the art space on Saturday, April 16 from 11am to 4pm, Jacki will celebrate her gallery’s first birthday with a rare studio clearance, art demonstrations, music and a special raffle to give away one of three original oil paintings by Jacki Burke, Sue Coote and Lorelle Fagan.
Visitors to the gallery will receive a free raffle entry while additional raffle tickets will also be available that day with every in-store purchase. The raffle will be drawn at 2pm.
“What an incredible year it has been. Despite having had to close our doors shortly after opening, it was a jammed packed first year filled with so many wonderful moments thanks to all the amazing artists I had the pleasure of working with, hundreds of students who participated in my workshops and everyone who chose to hold their events at our gallery,” Jacki Burke said.
“We opened just before restrictions were introduced a year ago. The gallery sat all sparkling new and full of beautiful things until we were allowed to open again.”
A year ago, Jacki started with an empty room, a blank canvass so to speak, and turned it into a welcoming, bright and colourful space that is brimming with forever art to adore at home. You’ll find everything from fine art and unique gifts to one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces created by Jacki and other local artists.
“It’s a beautiful feeling to know that so many pieces of art are now being appreciated in homes across the Surf Coast and beyond,” Jacki Burke said.

Alongside several changing art exhibits and gallery talks, the gallery also provides a safe environment for people to explore their creativity by joining an intimate art class for all levels of experience, providing visitors with an accessible creative escape.
“My local students have found our workshop room a healing sanctuary after Covid,” she adds. “However, I have also welcomed visitors from all over Australia to do the art immersion weekends whether it be to paint a big wave, a storm or huge flowers.”
Visit Surfcoast Gallery on Saturday, 16 April 2022, to cheers Jacki Burke for a fantastic first year and, with a bit of luck, win a stunning oil painting for your home.
