As the temperature drops, rich, full-bodied red wines are the perfect choice to warm you up. While you might be the kind to reach for a glass of Shiraz all year round, winter is the perfect time to truly indulge in the wine varietal, especially with Geelong’s annual dedication to it – the Winter Shiraz Weekend.

Returning for its sixth edition, after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the annual Winter Shiraz Weekend is set to thrill connoisseurs with two days of exploring the versatility of Shiraz with beautiful wine, food and entertainment as the Geelong region basks in the mid-winter glow.

Keep up with the latest local food and wine events via our website.

Hosted by Wine Geelong, this exciting celebration of Geelong Wine will take place on July 3 and 4 this year, offering guests a unique and exclusive opportunity to taste their way across a diverse selection of award-winning Geelong wineries from the Surf Coast, Moorabool Valley and Bellarine Peninsula.

With 26 participating wineries, each will offer their own unique programs giving guests plenty of opportunities to meet the individual winemakers, purchase bottles on special and warm up with a glass and an open fire while talented chef’s match the region’s renowned cool climate wines with hearty winter fare.

Some of the highlights for this year include a shiraz masterclass with Banks Road winemaker Will Herham; Jack Rabbit Vineyard’s ‘Local Heroes’ four-course degustation dinner; woodfired meatballs paired with Syrah at Lethbridge; live music at McGlashan’s Estate; mulled wine, paella and a toasty fire at Oneday Estate; and a three course winemakers lunch with winemaker Robin Brockett at Scotchmans Hill.

There’s also a special Fireside Shiraz Dinner at Clyde Park; a 2-course or 4-course ‘Chef’s Selection lunch or dinner at Provenance Wines; Shiraz & Cheese High Tea with Bottomless Bubbles at Mt Duneed Estate; and a Winter Shiraz Dinner at Nicol’s Paddock.

And that’s all barely scraping the surface – it’s impossible not to be tempted by so many of our wineries offering some special for absolutely anyone, kids included.

So plan your journey, catch up with family and friends and discover the award-winning delights of Winter Shiraz Festival 2021.

All participating wineries will be adhering to COVID safe guidelines and government regulations. Head to the Winter Shiraz Weekend website for the full program of events.
