Geelong’s newest pub has just revealed their opening date

Previously known as local favourite, Lord Nelson.

It’s time, Geelong Malt Shovel Taphouse have revealed the opening dates for their freshly renovated new venue – and bookings are now open!

Taking over The Lord Nelson – an old favourite among locals – the venue has transformed into Lion’s craft beer bar brand Malt Shovel Taphouse, thanks to a $1.1million makeover under plans by owners the Muhor Family. The heritage-listed hotel now boasts a new beer garden frontage to match the building’s 1920s façade, revamped interior walls, doors and glazing, and a new black and white colour scheme.

Opening from Monday November 23, this marks the sixth Malt Shovel Taphouse in Australia. The venue has revealed their focus will be on intimate customer service experiences, featuring beer guides and authentic stories, to beer tasting zones, roaming brew crews and beer appreciation classes… plus a tonne of great food!

As part of the transformation, the owners have signed a contract with Lion that will see the pub provide the different kegs for about 15 taps at the new craft beer emporium which will be ever-changing which is a huge win for beer lovers in the region. So far it looks like we’ll be seeing the likes of Brooklyn Brewery, Furphy, James Squire, Little Creatures, Panhead and White Rabbit, just to name a few.

The venue will swing open its doors from Monday November 23 and operate Monday through to Sunday from 11am to late. Bookings are now open and can be made here so secure your table and prepare for a killer booze-filled summer in the CBD.

The first Malt Shovel Taphouse opened in Adelaide in November 2018 and there are now venues in Bendigo, Randwick, Sunshine Coast, The Rocks and of course Geelong.
